FAQs about hotels in Lake Como
A Haven of Alpine Tranquillity
Surrounded by the spectacular scenery of the Alps, Lake Como is a long, thin lake in the shape of an inverse ‘Y’. At its south-west corner is the beautiful town that it’s named after – Como. A short train ride from Milan, this is the starting point for several Lake Como cruises. If you take the funicular railway up to Brunate you get magnificent views of the lake and mountains, towards Switzerland just to the west.
The laidback and sophisticated way of life makes Como Lake popular with celebrities and several have homes in exclusive Bellagio, which is almost entirely surrounded by water. The views here are breathtaking, so it’s easy to see why of all the Lake Como hotels, Bellagio has the greatest concentration.
Just across the water are Lenno, Tremezzo and Menaggio, home to many exclusive lakefront hotels, many with swimming pools. You can actually swim in some parts of the lake, and the best beaches are found in the area near Gravedona in the north. Fanning out around a small harbour, this town offers some of the best Lake Como watersports.
At the lake’s south-eastern corner is Lecco, a town in the shadow of rugged mountains. Booking.com has a great range of apartments, B&Bs and hotels in Lecco and all the other main Lake Como towns.

- From £254.12 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.0Superb - What previous guests thought, 891 reviewsExcellent hotel in a perfect location on the side of the lake. I contacted the hotel prior to the holiday and they booked us into the spa in the hotel next door where we had a great afternoon in the private spa followed by a massage. We ate in the restaurant next door on both evenings of our stay, the first a fine dining menu and the second time we had pizza. Both were great and the staff were friendly. We were in walking distance down to the lake and enjoyed a walk around the lake on a footpath which was easy to follow. Breakfast was also excellent with lots of choice and fresh food.Guest review byLauraUnited Kingdom
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.3Superb - What previous guests thought, 243 reviewsYou think you visited good places? Or even very good places? Giacomino Agriturismo is for sure better than them. Our life usually short enough to visit places twice - but here we will return, no doubt! Amazing landscape over 2 lakes with a large and lovely garden makes you feel like you are in heaven. Drinking very tasty home-made wines (and beers, too!), eating original-local tastes of the farm, enjoying perfect selection and type of Italian coffees just let you relax and get reenergized fully.Guest review byT.Hungary
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.9Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 377 reviewsIt was a clean, modern and quiet property with breathtaking views of Lake Como. We were upgraded to a one bedroom villa & we loved getting to enjoy the lake which was right in front of our room! We had fun exploring different areas on the lake by getting a day pass for the ferries (which makes complete sense because you don’t have to keep lining up for tickets) & even though the area was quiet, we were walking distance to a few great restaurants as well as a small mini mart.Guest review byPhyllisSingapore

The villa itself is very charming and has a spirit and story. Is very well located so has the best view over a lake. I had a jacuzzi in my room, so this made my stay even more relaxing. Chilling in the tub and admiring splendid view over a lake on each time of a day. Something extraordinary.Guest review byNinaMonaco

It is a wondeful city with Ferries' pier, making it easy to reach and explore all famous cities of the lake Como (Menaggio, Bellagio, Varenna). One must be ready to wake up early, at 6 AM to buy full-day Ferry ticket. Once it is done, the Como lake can be explored freely with no need to stay in the queues.Guest review byVladislavItaly - 8.0

Bellagio is a beautiful place, though it can be quite busy and crowded. Unfortunately, our experience was marred by an unpleasant encounter with a policewoman who was not friendly at all. We had just arrived and accidentally parked in a residential parking area. Despite our attempt to explain the mistake and our immediate departure, she issued us a ticket. On top of our already tight schedule, we then had to spend time figuring out how and where to pay the fine.Guest review byR YRCanada - 10.0

A beautiful town on the shores of Lake Como. Plenty to do and the town has excellent amenities. The promenade along the side of the lake is fantastic but the old town a few streets in is also great to wander around.Guest review byDominiqueUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Loved Menaggio - the location is right on Lake Como - plenty of eating options and all in easy walking distance. Prking is an issue though - in August anyway. Everyone in the town is very friendly. Having the ferry service at Menaggio is useful for getting easily to other towns on the Lake - much quicker than driving.Guest review byMurrayNew Zealand - 10.0

Extremely beautiful village very clean, even in middle of July, it did not feel overcrowded, easy walk to all attractions, Villa Monastero gardens is a must. Enjoyed, 4hrs in Billagio for sightseeing and shopping although very crowded. Side trip via bus to the gorge in Bellano was a highlight. Note: This was our 60th wedding anniv.Guest review byHARRYUnited States - 10.0

A hidden gem, smaller than more touristy towns like Varenna or Bellagio but with 2 great beaches next to each other on the lake with very safe swimming areas. Lots of opportunities to try watersports like paddleboarding, kayaking and windsurfing. Lots of restaurants to choose from, main waterfront square is the main hub at night with good food choices and spectacular views of lake and mountains. Everything walkable, we had a car and so meant we could also have some sightseeing days, Varenna and Bellano both 20-30 mins away, Bellagio about 80 mins.Guest review byPatrickUnited Kingdom - 10.0

I’d definetly book this place again, great views. It was fairly easy to get to and from, bit of a long journey but didn’t mind. The staff were great and the other people staying were nice to very international and friendly oh and I loved seeing peoples dogs but I’m not sure if they were staying there? The room was clean, beds comfortable, WiFi not sure it worked, breakfast good and fair price.Guest review byisabellaUnited Kingdom - 6.0

It's a cute town with some lovely restaurants and easy enough to walk around for someone of average fitness. However if your purpose is to explore most of Lake Como, you will be limited to the slow ferry up to Bellagio / Varenna / Menaggio which takes 2-3hours. We had originally booked to stay in Varenna but cancelled due to works on the train line to get there. It still would have been a better option, or just staying in Como town to access the fast ferry. Most of the private boat tours also pick up from Como or from the "Golden Triangle" of the lake.Guest review byLouiseAustralia - 10.0

We walked around the area, went to the grocery store, went down to the lake, walked around the city along the lake. We chose restaurants based on our favorite Italian rule: go where the locals go. Luckily, there are very few tourists in Mandello, so it was easy to find good places with tasty and cheap food. We moved around the city on foot. You have to take into account that the city is located at the base of a mountain, and part of the time you have to walk uphill.Guest review byKarinaEstonia
