Reception staff were very welcoming and efficient, especially when I asked to move rooms as I don't like lifts, so they moved us to a lower floor. Restaurant staff were also very welcoming, breakfast was lovely with so much choice. The hotel is in a great location to walk everywhere and car parking 5 minutes away. On the whole, a lovely hotel, rooms presented well, would definitely stay again.

Magnificent building and gardens, decore inside was superb. Staff at all levels were so helpful. Islam was so great on the first day, with our luggage, and helping us settle into Cork. His customer service skills with us and other interactions I observed with other guests was exceptional. Tiago was also noteworthy upon checking in and sorting out an issue that occurred with an over charge, upon checkout. He was very courteous and would always enquire about my day and what I had seen in Cork when I went through reception. I appreciate such high level of interested conversations. Loved the wellness area.

Beautiful historic city.

Beautiful historic city. I am sure I could have spent a few more days there and even more out and about the country side. Day tour trip to Galway and Cliffs of Moher well worth it though personally don't like bus rides. the guide was good and if you do go, don't choose the back seat unless you have 4 other very close friends.

Cork is a very vibrant, walkable, trendy city.

Cork is a very vibrant, walkable, trendy city. I highly recommend doing the get on - get off bus and getting off at any stops that interest you. There's so much more to the city than just the centre hub. The English market is great for all your fresh food needs! Meat, veg, fish, baking ... Especially if you've got a kitchen where you're staying! It was exciting to explore through there. The old Cork Gaol was very interesting. We spent hours there exploring rooms and I highly recommend the audio tour. You're not going to get the same experience from the paper tour. Our time in Cork just wasn't long enough! We had breakfast at Spitjacks ... I highly recommend! Visit the Blarney castle! Go early & try to be 1 of the first up to the stone if you're doing that ... The crowds come thick & fast & if you're back at the beginning of the castle, it can be up to an hour wait & longer. Explore the gardens ... They're full of really cool stuff! There's not really a lot to do in Blarney itself but a stroll in the garden is great!

We didn’t expect to love Kilkenny this much.

We didn’t expect to love Kilkenny this much. Honestly, we thought it might just be a quick stop between Dublin and Dingle — but wow, this city had other plans. We stayed at the Kilkenny Hibernian Hotel, which turned out to be right in the heart of everything (and dangerously close to several very good pubs). The staff were friendly, the room was great, and the downstairs bar made it a little too easy to “just pop in for one.” The castle is straight out of a storybook, St. Canice’s Cathedral has a tower climb that will either make you feel brave or slightly ridiculous (worth it either way), and Rothe House and the Medieval Mile Museum make history feel alive and oddly relatable. Everywhere we turned there was something beautiful, old, or both. And the pubs — good grief. Every night turned into “just one more pint,” with live music, friendly locals, and that cozy Irish magic that makes you forget what time it is. Kilkenny has this perfect mix of history, charm, and fun. It’s walkable, welcoming, and just the right size to feel like you really got to know it. We left wishing we’d stayed longer — and promising we’ll be back (ideally with stronger pub stamina).

Wexford is a lovely coastal town on the Southeast coast with a real warm vibe to it. Cosy pubs and cafes with access to beaches that span miles with hardly anyone on them. You can spend days exploring the town and find lovely pubs, restaurants and cafes to relax, read and chat with friends or go driving to nearby beaches like Kilmore Quay and Curracloe. The Wexford Festival Opera is the perfect time to go and experience lesser known operatic works by a wonderful opera company in the very beautiful National Opera House. The festival definitely gives the town an extra buzz.

Quirky little town that seems caught between intentions -- a working town with some attractions is probably the best description. Waterford Factory tour was interesting if you are a collector. If you are looking for cutting-edge city life, this is not for you. Dundalk is a former railway town, largely built round the (now defunct) works for the GNRI and with much 19th century red-brick architecture. It has a busy high street with a lot of small shops, pubs and restaurants, none are grand, it reminds me of similar towns in the UK before planning blight took hold. A lot of effort seems to have gone into smartening the place up in recent years, which is nice. Would that other towns of its scale have survived so well it would be nothing exceptional, but as so few have, it has a real charm. As a base, it is well sited to explore the countryside around, which has a long and interesting history, with a lot of historic sites.

Cavan Town has a lot of historical buildings and is also...

Cavan Town has a lot of historical buildings and is also associated with historical figures including Percy French, the musician, artists and performers. The Town is worth visiting and there is an excellent road system and an excellent bus service also. The Town has great potential and maybe this is not being fulfilled. There is a multicultural community and you will be able to 'experience' many different cultures and attend different cultural events etc. You need also to be aware of the cultural sensitivities around you as those coming from different ethnic backgrounds may have different approaches as to how things are done and also different expectations as well. You need to be aware that similar to Northern Ireland, you are in a 'divided' community. There is a strong cross border influence as the Town of Enniskillen is a short distance from Cavan Town. You must also remember that you are in the Republic of Ireland and not Northern Ireland. Border communities are still 'growing' communities and 'the past' is still a sensitive subject including the 1920ies. Enjoy yourself and respect everyone and you will have an excellent time in Cavan Town.
