Esztergom is not a big city and it gives opportunities for travelers to walk to most of the sights. The importance of the city on the Danube was high and it is rich in history. The seat of the head of the Hungarian Catholic church is in Esztergom and the cathedral is stunningly beautiful with a cafe in the dome part, which provides uncomparable view of the city and the surroundings. Nice quiet place, half of lake is quiet without any buidlings. Other half is great for restaurants, playground. We did nice long walk (10 km ) start with observation tower and walk around whole lake to finnish with great dinner. Just if you start on the lonely site of lake, take water/wine/beer with you :). If you have car trouble near here, there are many helpful car dealerships and auto mechanics in this town. Not a bad place at all to get stuck for a day. With the basilica looming above it, there's a real sense of history about this town. Very filmic atmosphere. Lovely river frontage and great cycleways and walkways. The city is quite tranquil and beautiful. Both the Eszterházy manor and the castle were great to visit, plus there are two scenic lakes with park areas to stroll through, Platán Bistro was a great lunch experience, with awesome food and desserts to die for.
