Everything - it was the best hotel we’ve stayed in in a while. The room was beautiful, so clean and cosy. The bed was so comfortable and the room was welcoming with lovely touches. Although we didn’t have a huge room, there was more than enough room and the bathroom was big in comparison with a large shower and spacious area. The staff were really helpful and friendly and let us leave our bags in left luggage prior to use checking in and after us checking out which was so helpful. We had previously booked into another hotel which turned out to be not very nice and we had to check out of due to its poor facilities, so to stay here instead was just what we needed!

The location is great - close to the pier. Tea and coffee tray excellent. We had a fantastic sea view room which wasn't too noisy at night at all. Comfy clean bed with lovely complimentary bathing products. This is a repeat stay at the Ship so I like it here. Price is ok for what you get- large hotel on the seafront.

Hastings was an interesting town. We enjoyed the old part of the town and the funicular railway lifts, as well as the smugglers' caves, which were a must see! This was my 3rd trip to Rye in 2 years and this time I finally managed to see the Story of Rye told with the town model in the Heritage Centre. It really helped me understand the layout and history you find walking round the old streets. The view from the church tower is absolutely stunning and well worth the climb!

Lewes is very good as a place to stay if you are interested in history or just like browsing local shops. It also has excellent railway connections so you can get to Brighton, Hastings, Eastbourne and up into Sussex by public transport. It is hilly and a good base if you want to explore the South Downs by walking. A good range of restaurants, pubs and cafes too.

Access to the beach is not too difficult for someone whose joints creak a bit. A long slope with hand rail is helpful. Our sunny but bracing walk along the prom was enlivened by cheerful visitors and dogs . The outdoor cafe afforded shelter from the wind and good coffee. After 2 hours we walked slowly into the village and were charmed by the buildings and quirky shops, the Grange library and art gallery, duck pond and church with Burne Jones windows. We found very clean toilets inside the church too. Thanks for this.We thoroughly enjoyed our time in Rottingdean.

The spa was very well apportioned and it was very quiet and secluded. The staff throughout the hotel were extremely pleasant. One thing they must do in the restaurant is ensure that the wine ordered has arrived and ready to drink before the food is served. It is not good form to serve the food without the wine bottle even being at the table, let alone not opened.
