FAQs about hotels on Isle of Wight
Wonders of Wordplay and Nature’s Way
With dramatic cliffs and unspoilt countryside, the Isle of Wight sits off England’s south coast. Ferries from Southampton cross The Solent to Cowes, a sleepy port which bursts into life during its annual regatta – Cowes Week.
Over the inlet is Osborne House, Queen Victoria’s summer home, while Henry VIII was behind the construction of the castle in Yarmouth. Neighbouring Freshwater is the closest town to the multi-coloured sands of Alum Bay. Next door are the Needles which you can’t thread, as the Wonders of the Isle of Wight saying goes. These eroded white cliff formations, one with a lighthouse, extend into the English Channel at the island’s south-western tip.
Near the southern tip is Chale, next to Blackgang Chine children’s amusement park, and close to Ventnor, on a hill sloping to the sea. Around the coast are the most popular beach resorts: Sandown with its nature reserve, and Shanklin with its cute Old Village and the most Isle of Wight hotels with indoor pools on Booking.com. Seaview also has a nature reserve, and nearby Ryde is a Victorian beach resort whose long pier is the docking point for ferries from Portsmouth.
Other hotels on the Isle of Wight are found in Wootton Bridge, with its steam railway, and the county town Newport, home to Carisbrooke Castle.

- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.2Very good - What previous guests thought, 830 reviewsThe room was charming, wth a very comfortable King bed; two side tables with lamps; a small table with 2 lounge style chairs, a writing desk with its own lamp; tea/coffee facilities and the heated rails in the modern bathroom maintaining a comfortable temperature. The old casement windows have a wide ledge, perfect for sitting and taking in the view - in my case the Esplanade and water views - gorgeous and relaxing. The Breakfast room follows the period theme with a buffet set up with cereals, pastries etc along with tea/coffee, there is also a varied full breakfast menu. The staff were fabulous, attentive, helpful, respectful and friendly, dinner was in the bar/dining room there was a great menu choice and a nice atmosphere.Guest review bymickelboroughAustralia
- From US$499.89 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.5Very good - What previous guests thought, 335 reviewsThe exceptionally helpful and professional staff, together with the welcoming and relaxing atmosphere of the hotel, guaranteed a most enjoyable stay. Our room was extremely comfortable and most attractive with an en-suite bathroom in which everything functioned perfectly. Breakfast at the hotel was one of the high points of the day and for the staff, nothing was too much trouble: the dishes served from the extensive menu were all quite delicious. The Royal truly is a most remarkable hotel.Guest review byNicholasBrazil
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 7.7Good - What previous guests thought, 526 reviewsEverything. The location - serenity and tranquility. The facilities were just right, nothing more to add to it. Just pure perfection! The bus ride from the transport interchange to the bay, by Bus, was always enjoyable. Took a trip into Bembridge to a Chinese restaurant and a COOP shop. The entire community is beautiful.Guest review byOdosa VictorNigeria

Shanklin is a beautiful coastal town, with many interesting places to visit, apart for its great beach and seafront attractions and pubs, the Old Village with their pretty thatched cottages, Pencil Cottage, Pink Cottage with its lovely Fairy Garden, Shanklin Chine and its hotel were Victorian couples used to spend their honeymoon, Fisherman Cottage , Rylstone Gardens, Big Mead pond , nice walk to Bonchurch, Devil Chimney, Wishing Seat and the waterfall on the beach on the way to Luccombe just to mention some.Guest review bySeamarUnited Kingdom - 4.0

This was probably a nice seaside town in it's day, but that is no longer the case. The town centre has many run down or boarded up shops. There is a pier which is full of amusement arcades and gaming machines, but that is about all there is here. We made use of the excellent bus network to go and visit Osborne House, and getting a bus out of town is probably your best option.Guest review byPeterUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Ryde is a great place to visit.
Ryde is a great place to visit. The beach is particularly beautiful and has very pleasant walks along its length with lots of places to visit. There are also plenty of buses so if like me you don’t drive or as an alternative to driving, you can get to practically anywhere on the Island. There are also some good places to eat in and around the streets of Ryde.Guest review byjanetteUnited Kingdom - 8.0
Cowes is quite busy and noisy, but we expected that.
Cowes is quite busy and noisy, but we expected that. If you want a quiet IOW break, choose one of the resorts on the other side of the island, but for the buzz of the world's yachting capital stick to Cowes. Bus services to all parts of the island are frequent and plentiful.Guest review byAnonymous - 10.0
Quiet and scenic bay.
Quiet and scenic bay. Excellent fish and chips at Golden Sands. The Spyglass pub looks over the bay and does lovely food. Toni's does great toasties and boozey hot chocolates. Really lovely vibe and lovely to see so many dog walkers. Ventnor Boat Charters do a good boat trip along the bay and they're really friendly. It has real charm and a good place to stroll along and forget your worries.Guest review byBenUnited Kingdom - 8.0
Ideal location for exploring the Island.
Ideal location for exploring the Island. The variety of good real ale pubs and eating places were a lot less than when I was first in Newport around 15 or so years ago. We tried several pubs, and a tea room/bakery, but on balance the best were not in Newport. The best for drinks - beer at least and wine - was the Newport Ale House; and for food and drink, the Union Inn Cowes, the Red Lion Freshwater, the Bargeman's Rest Newport, the Castle Inn Newport, and top of the list the Highdown Inn Totland Bay ... but there are more to try when we next go for a week of exploration and hiking!Guest review byDominicUnited Kingdom - 8.0

Freshwater was ok but the beach was not dog friendly so we went to Compton beach a few times, the dog loved it. The Red lion pub served lovely food but you have to book, it gets a bit busy, but the Vine pub serves proper pub grub and their homemade pies were delicious , booking is also recommended but not vital.Guest review byWilliamUnited Kingdom - 10.0

I found Bembridge full of surprises , I came across the last windmill on the island, the beach is so nice , the people are so friendly and very helpful, I felt welcome and safe. There was a book on Bembridge in the flat I rented and it was so interesting that I have ordered a copy for myself.Guest review byjackieUnited Kingdom - 8.0

Great location for foot passengers on the ferry and a wide selection of busses to travel futher into the island. Lots of cafe's and restaurants. Qaiunt little town with some lovely old buildings, a pier and a handful of galleries and independant shops selling gorgeous unusual things. Can be "done" in a relaxed leisurely day.Guest review byLesleyUnited Kingdom - 8.0
Cowes for me is the gateway to the Isle of Wight.
Cowes for me is the gateway to the Isle of Wight. East Cowes is where the vehicle ferry arrives and departs and there is more parking on this side than in the main town which is a chain ferry ride away. If you are a nautical person and enjoy the sea and everything that goes on in it this is a mecca for you.Guest review bytimUnited Kingdom
