This is a very quaint, pretty , beautiful experience of staying in an historic hotel. It was beautifully decorated for Xmas and other guests and locals visiting the bar were friendly and fun. Food was great. Tv struggled. Breakfasts were fantastic especially the scrambled eggs and salmon. Loved having Marion play piano accordion on our last night. Thanks to Henry for organising. Was very special.

Very nice place, the salmon for dinner is very good. BUT BEWARE!! Don't trust Google Maps or Apple Maps: the hotel is 300 meters straight from the port; I was on a bike and had to do the mountain grand prix twice (there and back) because the GPS sends you to the other side of the island, to The Colonsay Apartments, even if it is indicated as The Colonsay Hotel. The photo is what the GPS says, but the hotel is close to the start.

The staff were super helpful, friendly and welcoming. We loved the character of the building, and most of all the view from our room of the port was incredible (recommend getting a top story room)! The restaurant was also really great with fresh and tasty breakfast and dinner options (the included breakfast was a welcome bonus as well).

The whole experience of staying at the Sligachan Hotel was a blast! The team are superb, and the rooms are utterly cosy and spacious (I even had my own cloakroom!) with a massive comfy bed. Great walks and hikes.

Great walks and hikes. We are an older couple and did the Fairy Pools, the Old Man of Storr, and Scorrybraec circular loop from Portree. We also did a wildlife cruise which was fun and saw eagles, seals and dolphins. Visited historic Dunvegan castle We loved a dinner we had at the Dulce and Rose restaurant at The Bosville Hotel in Portree. There were 2 coops where we shopped for food. There was so much more to do but sadly ran out of time.

Whilst Pennygate Lodge is a lovely guest house we found Craignure a very drab functional place. We might have been better staying in Tobermory though the available accommodation there was not as good. Two storms approaching from the west starting with torrential rain did not help make our visit to Craignure very pleasant. Close to ferry of course which is a positive. However nearby Duart Castle well worth a visit.

Dunvegan was quite central to travelling across Skye for our various planned activities - whisky tour, puffin tour, walking Quiraing, Fairy Pools and Old Man of Storr. The two shops had enough for the grocery essentials and there were several cafes and restaurants to provide choice. The castle was interesting though a bit pricey.

A trip here needs time to enjoy the environment around and at the hotel. It is not very near a large town but a village is not far away. But that also makes it special. Make sure to get there during daylight as the roads leading to the hotel are not highways. The food was delicious and well proportioned. We wanted to stay there for longer.
