- From US$47.19 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.8Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 282 reviewsNice nostalgic place to stay, I've been there several times in the past. I visited 6 lakes there: 2 bigger in Elva, another bigger one near this place and also three smaller lakes within 3 km. Nice walking path in the forest, nice birdsong around the building and in the forest (in spring). The path of Tartu ski marathon is very beautiful, like a wide highway in the middle of the forest. I like the small houses spread around the main house between trees. The toilets and shower room are common for the whole level and there are separate levels for men and women (men in the ground floor). There's a possibility of using fridge (check the cable first that it is plugged in!), microwave and a small water boiler for boiling about 1 litre of water. The water in the taps had a strong iron taste so I didn't use it for drinking, not even boiled. There was TV in the room, wifi worked, even with IPv6 directly from the internet service provider. Curtains in the room could be closed for night pretty well so the early morning brightness didn't come too much in the room. It was quiet during the night and the window could be closed well enough so that the bird sounds didn't wake up too early. The gunshots (as for practice by some people who come and practice there) could be disturbing to some, they echo kilometres away in the forest and to Elva but it wasn't that bad for me; in the building they are less audible than when being outside.Guest review byRiivoEstonia
- From US$150.73 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.4Superb - What previous guests thought, 2,487 reviewsThe hotel qualifies for its superior four-star rating. The personnel is polite and helpful. The ambiance is gorgeous, and there is a luxurious scent in the rooms and halls. The restaurant is marked in the Michelin guide and attracts with its high-quality service and cuisine. The location is exceptional - in the very heart of Tartu's Old Town yet, in the quiet corner of it. Breakfast was wonderful and the waiters were helpful there as well (I would only recommend using less salt in an omelet and no salt & sugar in the porridge). The spa is small & cozy with a luxurious atmosphere inside. Overall, Lydia Hotel provided us with a wonderful stay caring about us at every step.Guest review byAnnaEstonia

Great location, cheerful staff (who speak English if needed), amazing pool/saun area that our group aged 2 to 70+ enjoyed. Breakfast was also a large buffet that was delicious. Bonus for the kids play area in the restaurant so we could actually eat!Guest review byAnneliCanada

Absolutely fantastic small, green, walkable city with a great young studently attitude combined with lots of arts. Poets, writers dramatists who had come from there. I found learning all about them while strolling leisurely around their city fascinating. I, personally, really hope to return there soon.Guest review byDeclanIreland - 10.0

This can be dubbed the garden town of Estonia (which in itself could be named the garden country of Europe). Every detached house has an immaculate garden with lots of flowers in the summer and the town government does not save pennies on making streets floral and beautiful. There are small and larger forests in the neighbourhood and there are two small beaches bordering natural lakes in the town centre. For those looking for vibrant nightlife, this is not the place to be. From Elva you can take the train or bus to Tartu from the 19th century wooden train station. In the other direction, the train goes to Valga from where you can travel onwards into Latvia. Overall, i would think that 3 days is about right to explore Elva (and its excellent small scale restaurants) and the surroundings.Guest review byLeoDCBelgium - 10.0
The hostess was great.
The hostess was great. They provided additional information regarding a tour of the castle and the area. The breakfast menu was provided the evening before and it was extensive. I checked off just about everything on offer and then worried it would be too much, but the portions were adjusted accordingly, and thus I was delighted to have been able to taste all of what was offered. As for the area...restful.Guest review byJAANCanada - 10.0

Tartu is the intellectual capital of Estonia and has some great museums. Eesti Rahva Museum is a must go. A fantastic history of Estonia and the finno-ugrik peoples. Vanemuine opera is good and good value. Loodus museum is better than Tallinn. Great restaurants and easy to get around on public transport.Guest review byGilesAustralia - 10.0
