It's a very convenient stopover, as well as a lovely place to stay in its own right - beautifully converted old farmhouse complex, a lot of thought and love has gone into the rooms, they are stylish and comfortable and all the details are perfect. We had a traditional room in the older part with a fantastic view across the garden to the hills beyond. Very pleasant provincial town, extremely few foreign tourists. Shumen is a very nice place for tourist visits.
Shumen is a very nice place for tourist visits. It has a lot of sites (museums, fortresses), and along the main pedestrian zone offers a lot of places with food and coffee. In close proximity to the town are located the historical Bulgarian capitals of Pliska and Preslav, as well as the Madara Rider UNESCO site. Very interesting if you like learning about the history of...
Very interesting if you like learning about the history of the country you're travelling. Most sights are not in the city centre - for example you have to walk over an hour to the fortress through a park and the forest - so that's a nice little hike, too. Extremely recommended: the Madara Archeological Preserve. Madara is only a couple of train stops from Shumen.Guest review byMarcoGermany
