Gloucester: A Perfect Stopover on the Scenic Route from...
Gloucester: A Perfect Stopover on the Scenic Route from Newcastle to Armidale Gloucester is a fantastic country town that makes for an ideal stop when travelling from Newcastle to Armidale via Bucketts Way and Thunderbolts Way. With its friendly locals, great food, and stunning scenery, it’s more than just a place to refuel—it’s a destination worth enjoying. Great Coffee & Food For a coffee break, The Common Coffee Shop is a must-visit. They serve excellent coffee and are open long hours, making it a reliable stop whether you're passing through early in the morning or later in the day. If you’re after a hearty meal, Gloucester Roundabout Inn serves great pub meals with generous portions, and their wine list isn’t bad either. Accommodation Options The Bucketts Way Motel is conveniently located near the centre of town, offering clean and comfortable rooms. Gloucester Holiday Park is a budget-friendly option—while it’s a little rough around the edges, it’s cheap, and the cabins are dog-friendly. Debbie, the manager, is fantastic and always welcoming, adding to the park’s charm. Scenic Beauty & Relaxation Gloucester is surrounded by stunning landscapes, including the striking Bucketts Mountains and the nearby Barrington Tops. Whether you're stopping for a short break or staying overnight, it’s a great place to stretch your legs, grab a quality coffee, and enjoy a bit of country hospitality before continuing your journey.Guest review byScottAustralia - 10.0

We visited Barrington Tops and Copeland and walked around the old goldmine workings there - quite a climb but well worth it. We found the accommodation very peaceful, with wonderful wildlife on view from the veranda.Guest review byDavid TreanorUnited Kingdom - 10.0

This country location requires that you arrive with most of your required groceries and grog. Dungog is a 30 min drive and a small town so you might not find what you need i.e. Gluten free or other dietary items. The internet and phone signal isn't available every where so understand where you are going and how while in signal. I will definitely return as I think there is more to explore but it hard to leave the serenity of the house once you have arrived.Guest review byJUDITHAustralia - 10.0
Breakfast was top classed.
Breakfast was top classed. We were not expecting to be able to pick from different options. Accommodation was comfortable and had everything we needed and being able to sit out on the verandah in the evening and mornings was perfect. Great hikes all around and the hosts were super friendly and accommodating.Guest review byAnthonyAustralia - 10.0

We loved our accommodation.
We loved our accommodation. It was perfect for either relaxing or exploring the wonderful area and do some hiking. The close proximity to Gloucester was very good - convenient to replenish any supplies or have a lovely pub dinner.Guest review byHelenaAustralia - 8.0

The national park has tremendous views and varied greenery, particularly the Gloucester Tops loop, though are understandably a fair drive to access, a 4WD vehicle gets you further in. Rain will bring the leeches out climbing up your shoes but they're fairly harmless! Driving over multiple causeway bridges adds interest to exploring.Guest review byShevonne - 10.0

This home has been stylishly furnished/ decorated with beautiful and high quality inclusions such as linens, crockery/cultery glassware etc. The open fire was lovely and the veranda to enjoy the views. The heated flooring in the bathroom was a lovely surprise. There were beautiful birds and many kangaroos to watch around the property. We visited Jerusalem walk and Chichester dam for hiking, all close by. I highly recommend this property.Guest review byJanne and DarrenAustralia - 10.0

I don’t usually write reviews, but when you find a gem like this you feel like telling people about it! From the pre-arrival information to the afternoon tea on arrival, breakfasts on the balcony with the birdie and gorgeous views, hospitality and attention from Melissa and Justin, the trees, the sounds and smells. Everything was just…perfect. We couldn’t have asked for a better quick getaway, other than to stay another night (or two). Highly, highly recommended.Guest review bySeanSwitzerland - 8.0
Travelled in September 2024.
Travelled in September 2024. Pretty town, lovely local parks, stunning rural scenery for nearby country drives, close to Barrington Tops. If planning to visit Barrington Tops National Park, suggest check with National Parks and Wildlife Service if any management activities going on. We could not get to the camping spots right at the top since the Park was closed in parts for all of September 2024 for feral animal management. There were no signs anywhere on the drive from Gloucester to Barrington Tops.Guest review byPaulAustralia
