Not sure Lienz is on traveller's radar.
Not sure Lienz is on traveller's radar. It's a must when travelling to Austria. Easy to get to by train from Germany and from within Austria. A small town easily navigated on foot. It's stunning. It was a shame the gondola was not operating though.Guest review byHelenAustralia - 8.0

We only stayed one day but it seemed a very busy town. Roads had traffic and there were road works going on that day. Nothing very interesting to visit around this place except for those who enjoy walks in the forest.Guest review byBridgetMalta - 10.0

Amlach is small village situated next to the Lienz, where are few places to see. Also ski resort Zettersfeld is like 5 - 7 km from there. Nature is beautiful, you can cykling or hiking here in summer and skiing in winter.Guest review byLuciaSlovakia - 8.0

Lavant is a good place to stay for visiting the area. it's a little village just down the Lienzer Dolomiten. You can do hikes, MBT or riverside cycle or iron path. For climbing it isn't a really major place. there are some spots, but not memorable. Just few km away it is plenty of supermerkets and any kind of shops, but remember that in Austria all is closed after 19 and saturday. Even during summer. In my opinion the best places to stay nearby Lienz are Lavant and Amlach on the suth bank of the Drava.Guest review byMarySillaItaly - 10.0
I grew up nearby.
I grew up nearby. It's a beautiful, small city in the middle of the Alps. Suitable for Summer and Winter holiday. Check out the restaurants outside of the city e.g., Im Stadl, Hollunderhof or Hotel Tristachersee.Guest review byFlorianAustria - 8.0
Pretty town.
Pretty town. I enjoyed the weekend market and the alpine coaster. The highlight was the castle and its amazing art galleries and museum. You can find anything you need in the village in terms of shops and there are endless great walks to do in the mountains or along the Isel River. But you might run out of things to do. The town itself is for eating and shopping. The free audio walking tour was not great. I stayed in a spa hotel during a fall snowstorm so I walked in the mornings and used the wellness areas in the afternoon. I went out to the Aguntum, the site of an ancient Roman village. The archeology site is not that exciting given that there's a highway running through it but the museum was interesting and the man working there sat and talked with me as there were only two other people who showed up that day (it was off season). Having a staff member explain the history of the place was interseting.Guest review bySarahCanada
