These comments do not apply only to Santa Maria, they apply...
These comments do not apply only to Santa Maria, they apply equally to other small towns in Argentina. It's very difficult for foreigners to pay for their accommodation as very few small establishments accept credit or debit cards, they almost all want Argentinian cash or Argentinian bank transfers. Of course foreigners don't have Argentinian bank accounts. And obtaining cash from ATMs is an absolute nightmare, at least it was for us. Using a Chilean debit card, the maximum amount we could withdraw was ARS60,000 (about USD50) for which there was a 20% charge on the Argentinian side, not to mention poor exchange rate and Chilean side charges. A VERY expensive exercise.Guest review byMaría CeciliaChile
