There was plenty of storage space for clothes. The room was big. The public baths area was beautiful and the baths were relaxing. We enjoyed the friendliness of the staff who were happy to help at all times.

Situated along Tanohara River and surrounded by tranquil nature in Kurokawa Onsen hot spring area, Oku no Yu Ryokan offers charming Japanese-style accommodation and various hot spring baths. Staff are very helpful and attentive to our needs. The outdoor onsen section is excellent. Overall ambience of is great given that it’s located by a stream.

The room was clean and large, with all the amenities we needed, bath, shower, basic cooking etc. Our hosts were awesome and recommended an amazing private onsen spot. Can’t recommend them enough. Just wish we could have stayed longer. The Kumamoto region is stunning.

A wonderful host and home. We stayed in a room that accommodated 4 people in Japanese styled bedrooms. A traditional home, it was a beautiful experience. The hostess was so helpful, accommodating and warm. She helped ensure we had the best stay and got to know the local restaurants and shops. Would stay here again!

Easy 10 min walk from Uchinomaki station, so accessible also without a car (just watch the train schedule since trains are only once per hour or so). This is just one train stop from Aso station, so provides easy access to Mt. Aso and the surrounding area. The kitchen is fully equipped (cutlery, pans, condiments, etc) and there is a small grocery store nearby to buy ingredients. Rooms are large, and there is a kitchen, 2 bedrooms and a japanese - style bathroom. The piano in the living room was a great and unexpected bonus. We were passing through and only stayed one night, but it would have been a great base to explore the Aso area and we would have loved to stay for longer.
