Acropolis

Long before it became known as Bloomfield Falls, this magnificent waterfall was called Wujal Wujal by the indigenous Kuku Yalanji people. Hire a guide and learn why these people still consider Wujal Wujal to be sacred. Or just head down with your 4x4 and a picnic hamper, and have lunch in serious style!

Very expensive for something that takes 5 mins to look around. Beautiful ancient building but a bit disappointed by the lack of the usual museum things: expositions, artefacts, hey even some shelter from the sun would be great.

    Coming early is key.

Coming early is key. I visited in March (winter season) and by 10 am, there was already a crowd inside of the Acropolis, at the only path to the Parthenon. Fortunately the crowd was not large, but I'd say it was a bit large for this time of the year. As for the toilets, they are outside of the sight, and once you leave the sight, there's no re-entering it with the same ticket. So make sure to go to the toilet before entering the sight.

Cozy apartment well furnished (washing machine, kitchenette, coffee machine, smart tv...). It is very well located, nearby restaurants, bars, bakery, and grocery stores but still in a very quiet street. Also, walking distance from the highlights of Athens (Acropolis, museums, botanical garden, popular suburbs...) The host was very helpful, assisted us to book a reliable driver to take us to the airport at 3am.

Quiet; excellent location near Acropolis Museum and Herodias Atticus Theatre; green outlook (not to Parthenon); well-equipped, comfortable, spacious and stylish apartment; useful shop and good rooftop restaurant nearby (Strofi). Excellent place to stay in Athens. Very well thought out and everything provided.

The locations is perfect, 10 min walk to the Acropolis museum and Acropolis, as well as Plaka. The apartment is well equiped, with everything one could need during their stay. The bed is quite comfy. The apartment has a lot of room. I would also mention Anastasia, our host. She is a wonderfull young lady. She was always available via WathsApp and was very helpful with suggestions what to visit in Athens, where to eat etc.

Nick was very kind and accomodating and contact with him was very easy and pleasant. The appartment is in a great part of Athens, full of life, lots to see and do and close to all historic sites. The appartment itself was perfect in size and very clean, with no noise from the busy streets. Having breakfast with a view of the Acropolis was also amazingly beautiful. If we come back to Athens again, we will definitely book with Avissinias Boutique Apartments again!

This is one of if not the best hotel I’ve stayed in! What makes it truly amazing are the facilities, you feel like you’re in your own little village in the middle of the nature when you’re actually 30min away from Athens city centre (should you wish to visit the acropolis and other historical sites). The view never gets boring and the staff were always very nice and helpful!

The hotel was kinda basic but we knew that was the case. But it was clean and the staff were friendly and helpful. The location however was great. Right in the heart of a lively area of Athens. Really cool bars and restaurants a-plenty all around and very near to the vibrant flea market. And above all a short walk to the Acropolis, which we could clearly see from our small balcony.

Go beyond the Acropolis and explore the Agora and Kerameikos, imagining yourself entering Athens along the road from the port of Piraeus, and following the Panathenaic Way to the Akropolis. Stop at the museums along the way to understand the significance of each site. Then visit the National Archaeological Museum to see that classical Athens is just one of Greece's many magnificent cultures.

If you want to avoid crowds while seeing the famous sights, start out early and be at the sights when they open. I arrived at the Acropolis around 8:10 AM and there were only around 20 people on the whole compound. It was wonderful! There was a crowd climbing the hill when I descended, though!

  • Consider visiting Athens in May or September.

Consider visiting Athens in May or September. May is just lovely. Spring flowers like poppies and daisies cover the hills. It's not too busy and not too hot. Remember that on holidays you are always moving so consider the weather when you make your plans. Also, research opening hours as the Acropolis is closed May 1; and other Ancient Landmarks are closed on certain days and on certain hours any other day.
