Company information

We launched the Creekwalk Inn in 1997 to preserve a unique bit of history, the home of the Log Home Guide magazine and their corporate national headquarters. Each of the 8 log buildings had either been completed by us or is in the dream phase of a new use. This is a log home enthusiast's delight with interesting architecture throughout. The main lodge is over 5000 feet of gleaming wood floors, open cathedral ceilings and a central fireplace in the library. The fireplace is a Scandinavian 'whole house" heater that on the kitchen side is a bread oven fired by the fireplace with a cast iron wood stove for winter cooking or keeping food and hands warm. We have an extensive library offered to guests for vacation reading. Our heat and air conditioning is geo-thermal from our delicious and plentiful well water. Each bedroom has a private full bath, and all of our king rooms have a private outdoor hot tub and firepit. We had renovated over 28 homes prior to purchasing Whisperwood, and the loving repurposing of the inn has been a family project since we arrived with our children, then 6 and 10, now grown into beautiful young ladies who occasionally take over and serve our guests.

Neighbourhood information

Our location is idyllic for stream sitters and mountain climbers, with over 850 miles of groomed trails in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park just a few minutes down the road. The Smoky Mountains are open for guests year round with no entrance fee. We offer trail maps and lots of local lore and suggestions, Janice being an avid hiker herself. The Mount Cammerer hike was declared by "Backpacker Magazine" to be the best hike in the Southeast, very challenging with a hiker's early breakfast recommended as well as a packed lunch, being over 12 miles joining the Appalachian Trail just 2.9 miles from Cosby Campground and then continuing on to the fire tower at the summit. Wildflower walking is perfect in April and flowers abound into the summer with the rhododendrom blooming in late June and July. Rushing mountain streams invite invigorating plunges. Cosby Creek runs along the front of the farm with over 1300 feet of frontage to try wading and fly-fishing for trout. Carver's Apple Orchard is well known for delicious dinners and produce, plus home made candy and treats, just about 2 miles down the road. Try whitewater rafting in Hartford, Pigeon River, or visit Gatlinburg.
