Pheasant Lodge was all Tony. Tony is the owner, and he is a great character. He is warm, funny and a great storyteller. We brought wine and a dip with us, but he insisted on putting a full platter together for us and we didn't even use our dip....

Breakfast was served and it was a joy watching Tony garnish the dish with fresh flowers and herbs from his garden, the flavours of each food item in the dish were crafted to perfection, cheers Tony, we will be back, Andre and Marelize.

The Lodge is a beautiful trip back to a Victorian era style of vintage, and decorated with a range of memorabilia. It adds a lot of character.

We are set in an historic and restored 1886 Heritage New Zealand villa. We have only 3 guest rooms, so you will never be crowded. Furnished with stunning Victorian antiques, English wallpapers, and fine fabrics, our aim is to make you feel special. We offer full cooked breakfast served by candlelight in the breakfast room, with a roaring fire in winter and complimentary fine ports, relax in the acre of gardens or curl up in the snug and watch a movie. We can even do a meal if you let us know in advance. We have great local knowledge and can recommend places to visit. We can make a grazing platter for you, and cater for gluten free and vegan if required. We can host your wedding party, and often get booked as a whole house for the in-laws looking for something upmarket, or for the bride and groom and their friends. We can also host writers clubs, book clubs, gardening groups, and small events. We have recently hosted 70th dinner parties for 16 people, where others staying locally joined the function, and can cost up a number of scenarios. Pheasant Lodge finished its renovations in August 2022 and has been open since September 2022 with 5 star reviews. We built it for people to have fun, enjoy this wonderful historic property with friends and family, and for an excuse for me buy nice antiques and single malt whiskies, so far its working!
Tony has lived in the area for nearly 10 years, and knows it well. He was born in the Cotswolds UK and raised his family there living in Amsterdam, Paris, London and Nairobi as a commodity trader. Arriving in New Zealand in 1990. he has been involved in Marketing Database and analytics for the last 30 years and was the first Marketing Fellow in NZ. Tony has a passion for antiques, design, gardening, single malt whiskies, and boring the pants off anyone who will listen to him! We look forward to having you stay with us at Pheasant Lodge to relax and feel special..
Paparoa is situated midway between both the East and the West coasts of NZ, a 20 minute drive to Mangawhai, 35 minutes toi Dargaville and on the way up to the Kai-Iwi lakes and the great Kauri Forests. From paparoa, there is a central road all the way to Whangarei and the new Hundterwasser museum, and Paihia and the Far North. THE KAURI MUSEUM IS LOCATED 6 MINUTES AWAY The world famous Kauri Museum at Matakohe is 6 minutes away and the Beach at Pahi is about the same. Dargaville museum is 35 minutes, and the west coast beaches and Pouto a further drive. Being 2 hours from the airport, we are the perfect luxury retreat when you arrive from overseas, or just escaping Auckland for the weekend with friends and wanting something special.
