Our House of Straw is a unique Bed and Breakfast built from wood, straw, hemp and clay. Due to its location, you can enjoy the city but also enjoy the countryside of North Holland that is just around the corner. The special rooms has clay walls. That creates atmosphere but also a pleasant climate. In addition, the room is equipped with all conveniences. You sleep on a wonderful mattress of 220 cm long. You can also make your own coffee or tea. There is a mini fridge for the fresh things you bought. In your private bathroom there is a sink, shower and toilet, but also shampoo, soap and a hairdryer. We have a washing machine and dryer that you can use, an extra fridge and a microwave. There are also snacks ready for you. Good WiFi is of course available free of charge. The rooms are also very suitable for business visits. You can quickly reach the Central Station and from there, for example, the RAI, Zuidas or Universities are easily accessible. We would like to welcome you! We are Merel and Frank. We have lived in Amsterdam since 1986 and in the Huis van Stro since 2021. Merel works at an educational institution. She likes cycling, shopping and cutting plants that she likes. Frank is busy renovating the house and also likes to go to the theater or the movies. We like to surprise our guests with this special house and give them a nice time in Amsterdam and the region. We are also happy to give you advice about the city.

It is a quiet place in the city. Our B&B is located in a quiet, safe and pleasant street with trees. The neighborhood is known for the modern architecture of the houses. At the end of the street, 60 meters from our house, there is a good restaurant with a terrace where you can have lunch and dinner, or go for a cup of coffee or a drink. Opposite the terrace is a swimming water with a jetty. You can also sit on a bench there to stare out over the water. For a walk, you walk out of the street and you will come to a centuries-old dike from the year 1200. It was once the main road to Amsterdam. For your groceries, you can walk 10 minutes or take the tram one stop. There are two supermarkets and other shops. There is a market on Saturdays. The center of Amsterdam is within easy reach. Every 5-10 minutes, tram 26 leaves for Central Station (13 min.). The stop is a 3-minute walk. Rural North Holland is nearby. Historic villages (including the Zaanse Schans, Edam, Enkhuizen, Volendam, Marken, Holysloot and Durgerdam) with their wooden houses and charming churches are worth visiting. You can easily explore them from here by car, train, bus or (electric) bike. So the hustle and bustle of the city and the peace and quiet of the meadows can both be found here!
