Company information

Welcome to Bab El Atlas, Kevin is English and Brigitte is Swiss. After traveling the world, we fell under the spell of this valley, it's local adobe architecture and the Berbers culture. It is with pleasure that we welcome you to this magical spot.

Property information

Charming guesthouse situated at the foot of the southern slopes of the Atlas mountains. A place where you can relax and, if you wish, go on adventurous discoveries of the surrounding area. The multiple patios offer an exceptional view of the ancient fortress of the Mgouna, emblem of the local Berber culture. We are in the heart of the Valley of Roses, an hour by car from Ouarzazate, in a village near the small town of Kalaat Mgouna. Each spring, the roses of the Rosa Damascina variety are picked and distilled to make rose essential oil and rosewater. The guesthouse is constructed using a traditional technique of rammed earth. The abundant sunshine allows us to produce our hot water with solar panels. To delight your tastebuds, we propose a traditional Moroccan cuisine made with fresh local produce. Evenings on the patios under a sky of brilliant stars will make you feel as if you are in a palace of one thousand and one nights!

Neighbourhood information

Situated in the very heart of the valley of roses in a quiet part of Mirna (part of Kalaat Mgouna), Bab El Atlas is only 200m from the "Tighremt" which is a partially ruined fortified collective granary. In bygone days, the local people kept all their stocks of food in this granary and in case of attack by other tribes, they defended their food supply rather than their homes. "Kalaat or Kelaat" is derived from an Arabic or Persian word "Qalaat" meaning fortress. So "our" ruin is in fact the original village of Kalaat Mgouna. In the season you can see the roses growing in the gardens or cultures and see rose picking early in the mornings or visit the rose distillery.
