Company information

Tamakiyo Co., Ltd. operates two facilities where guests can enjoy fine food and sake, as well as a café. Matsunoyama Onsen, where Tamakiya is quietly nestled, is highly regarded as one of Japan's three great medicinal hot springs. Its distinctive feature is that the hot spring water is filled with seawater that is 12 million years old. This ancient seawater results in a high concentration of boric acid in the hot spring water, which is believed to have antifungal and antibacterial properties effective against skin diseases. Moreover, the water at Matsunoyama Onsen is weakly alkaline and gentle on the skin. It is known for its moisturizing effects due to metasilicic acid, which leaves the skin soft and radiant after use. Even in the coldest winter, when surrounded by snow walls up to 3 meters high, soaking in Matsunoyama Onsen thoroughly warms you, allowing you to enjoy the snowy scenery without feeling much of the cold outside. Soaking in the hot spring while taking in the snow-covered landscape is truly a luxurious experience.

Property information

"A New Experience Born from French Cuisine and Japanese Sake" Our desire is for you to enjoy the food and sake of Niigata. The cuisine is local gastronomy that merges regional culinary wisdom with French techniques. The French full-course meal crafted by our head chef, Akira Kuriyama, who has built his career in Michelin-starred restaurants in Tokyo, is a unique experience available only for those who visit Matsunoyama. This meal has received a Michelin Guide Niigata 2020 Special Edition one-star rating for French cuisine. Our sake selection, curated by the fourth-generation sake expert Yuichi Yamagishi, offers a wide range of Niigata sake. Enjoy the pairing of French dishes that utilize local ingredients with Japanese sake. We also offer a variety of drinks, including wine, gin, and non-alcoholic options. Additionally, the hot springs are Matsunoyama Onsen, which contains 15 times the components of a therapeutic spring standard. Soak in this renowned hot spring, counted among Japan’s top three medicinal baths, and relax both body and mind while savoring French cuisine and Japanese sake. This will undoubtedly provide you with a new and unparalleled experience.

Neighbourhood information

"Explore Natural Wonders and Artistic Masterpieces" We recommend visiting the breathtaking natural landscapes of Hoshitoge Rice Terraces, Bijin Bayashi (Beautiful Forest), and Ryugakubo. Additionally, a journey to experience the art installations of the Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale, one of the world's largest art festivals, is highly recommended. Relax and unwind at Matsunoyama Onsen, one of Japan’s top three medicinal hot springs.
