Property information

Moritosha is a hotel housed in a former Buddhist training hall of Johana Betsuin Zentokuji, a temple with 550 years of history. Renovated as a space to experience Mingei, the second floor has been remodelled into six guest rooms while preserving the atmosphere of the past where people gathered and studied. Mingei items from various eras and regions are displayed throughout, allowing you to experience the wholesome and serene beauty distinctive of Mingei through the harmony between the architecture and furnishings. The hotel comprises 5 twin rooms with private showers and 1 triple room with a luxurious hinoki cypress bath. In addition, there is a cafe, a gift shop selling beautiful Mingei crafts and local products, and a hall where lectures on Buddhism and Mingei are held. There is also a teleworking space housed in the northern study of Zentokuji Temple. Moritosha is the perfect place to stay for your travels or workation, or to simply enjoy a cup of tea, browse the boutique, and enjoy the surroundings which are furnished with art by Munakata Shiko, Kanjira Kawaii, and Hamada Shoji, and folk crafts from around the world. It is a place where you can relax and cultivate the nourishment needed for life. We also offer a number of programs and experiences, such as morning worship at Zentokuji Temple, prayer bead making workshops, paragliding with views of the Sonkyo-son scattered villages, agricultural experiences with local farmers, and exploring Johana's Hikiyama and Mugiya festivals.
