Alkioni is a small apartment in the traditional style of a traditional Cretan house. Located on the second floor, it used to be a room on the hotel bearing the same name operated by my grandparents. The first thing you see when you arrive will be the beautiful relaxing and cool courtyard where you are free to seat whenever you want. Taking the stairs to the second floor you will pass a small seating area with a library that you are free to use whilst here. Once you pass the door, the first thing that you will notice will be the big balcony where you will probably spend most of your time in. Looking towards the East, it provides a magnificent view of the bay of Mirabello, the small island of Agioi Pantes which takes the name from the small church on it and the magnificent mountains beyond the bay making the sunrise truly unique. Our guests believe that it is "a place that has a spirit". I couldn't agree more.
Hi, I m Constantinos the owner of Dilina Guesthouse. Some things about me are: I m a very social and outgoing person. I play guitar, I study physical education, diet and nutrition and sport science and I also bodybuild. I m also a car and bike enthusiast and love meeting people with similar interests. I m a big believer in love and kindness and I try to welcome and treat everyone with kindness, compassion and love.
Dilina Guesthouse is situated just opposite "Minos Beach Art Hotel", the first hotel on the island were the tourism started in Crete with significant guests like politicians, kings & queens, artists etc. Ammoudi beach, one of the nicest beaches in town and adorned with a blue flag (which proves -among others- the quality of the water) and coffee places to relax is less than 50m away. Nice restaurants situated just above the sea are again, only 50 meters from the house. A 10 minute walk along the sea brings you to the heart of Agios Nikolaos, close enough to be easily available, but far enough so that the noise of the town does not bother you. Agios Nikolaos is the main town of the municipality and capital city of Lasithi, the eastern most province of Crete. With its beautiful beaches and famous “bottomless lake”, it provides enough to do and see for everyone. From there you can also follow the coast towards the famous Elounda or take a round trip directly to Spinalonga, the old fort -turned leper colony known from the works of author Victoria Hislop. Close to Agios Nikolaos, one can visit the ancient greek town of Lato, the old main city of the region that is pretty good preserved and is the birthing place of the explorer Nearchos, Alexander the Greats childhood friend and admiral of the fleet, the first european to sail down the Persian gulf and even the part of the Indus river. The picturesque villages and town of Neapoli that comprise the inner Mirabello valley can be visited either through a mountain ride, or through travelling down the coast. The Lasithi plateau, famous for its white windmills and the cave of Diktaion Andron, the birthplace of Zeus himself, can be reached from Neapolis. The largest town of the island and also the main airport, Heraklion, is roughly an hour to the west. It is there where you can see the Venetian fortress of “Koule”, the shipping yards, and the biggest collection of still intact Venetian walls of the whole Mediterranean.
