Company information

We both have a passion for the outdoors, especially cycling and in particular mountain biking which is very handy living on the doorstep of some of the best in the country! When not on two wheels we love to walk and have learnt many great walks around the western dales and bowland. We enjoy taking Chris's mum's dog Lucas with us! Another passion is food and we enjoy to entertain or simply go out for a nice meal from a good pub meal or a curry to fine dining.

Property information

King William the Fourth Inn was built on the site of another Pub in 1904 by Landlord John Wain, no relation to the cowboy! The story goes that John Wain continued to serve in one half of the new pub while the old was still being demolished on the other half of the site so service was not interrupted. Some locals still remember drinking in The King Billy, as it was affectionately known especially in summer in the cool cellar complete with fresh water stream, and it was reputed to have sold the best pint in Settle! For the last 25 years the building has been used as an Antique shop and more recently transformed into this luxurious guest house with high quality beds and showers that will guarantee a relaxing stay. We offer great customer service and amazing food which owners Chris Fontenille and Jackie Cole learnt from our previous occupations in the food and hotel industry respectively.

Neighbourhood information

Settle is an historic market town nestled at the foot of the Pennines. The bustling square is home to regular markets every Tuesday. The area boasts a wealth of spectacular scenery including one of the largest northern outcrops of limestone pavements and expansive gritstone moorland. Caves, waterfalls, potholes and the Three Peaks Whernside, Ingleborough and Pen-y-ghent attract thousands of visitors every year. Settle is also home to the Settle – Carlisle railway and throughout the summer there are steam specials laid on. Three of our rooms have direct views to the imposing and historic limestone outcrop known as Castleberg Crag that dominates the town. The town is surrounded by attractive Dales villages. Giggleswick with its renowned public school and Chapel, Austwick, Clapham, Langcliffe and Stainforth are nearby. Malham with its limestone pavement and cove and Ingleton with its stunning waterfall and caves area are both within easy reach.Check out what is happening at our local theatre, Victoria hall is a beautiful Victorian Music hall in the centre of Settle dating back to 1853. There is a wide range programme of music, drama, comedy, poetry and also community events.
