Deira is a small hamlet of Mesocco, located on a scenic natural terrace on the left side of the Moesa Valley, just a short distance from the village center. Its peaceful atmosphere and surrounding landscape make it perfect for those seeking relaxation immersed in nature. Surrounded by forests and mountains, it’s ideal for photography, leisurely walks, or hikes along panoramic trails such as the Mesocco–Deira–Gumegna route, which offers breathtaking views (a moderately challenging hike of about 4–5 hours). The village of Mesocco offers all essential services: restaurants, a pharmacy, a supermarket, a medical practice, and bank branches. The area is perfect for hiking, mountain biking, or motorbike rides. In addition, the famous Castle of Mesocco stands on a rocky spur, offering postcard-worthy views. Between Mesocco and its hamlets lies the “Zoo of Mesocco,” a thematic artistic trail immersed in nature that combines beauty and sustainability. The “Unusual Zoo” path features murals of animals created by local artists throughout the area. Mesocco extends all the way to San Bernardino, a popular tourist destination offering year-round activities: cross-country and alpine skiing, and ice skating in winter; adventure park, tennis, paddle, and mini-golf in summer. Musical and cultural events are also organized throughout the year.
