Characteristic of the city are the houses in the Renaissance style and the cobbled streets, which take you to a world of Bulgarianness. The city is part of the Hundred National Tourist Sites of Bulgaria. In Bansko, there are over 130 registered buildings that have the status of historical and cultural monuments, some of which are of national importance. Let's look at some of them: The house-museum of Nikola Yonkov Vaptsarov: Located in the center of the city and was opened in 1952, which is considered the beginning of museum activity in the city. In that year, Vaptsarov was also awarded the International Peace Prize. In the museum, you will get to know the poet's life and work through exhibits, film screenings, spectacular lighting and sound.The museum is united in one complex with the House of Arts and Poetry. Velyanova house: The two-story house dates back to the Renaissance, which was built only of stone and wood in the 18th century. Master Velyan Ognev, painted it inside and out. The house has been declared a cultural monument. The ceilings have unique wood carvings by Velyan Ognev himself. "Bansko Art School" This is the best-preserved and oldest building in Bansko, dating back to 1749. It served as a female metoch initially at the Hilendar Monastery, and later at the Rila Monastery. The existing six exhibition halls trace the development of the Bansko icon painting school. A special place in the exhibition halls is given to the founder of the school, Toma Vishanov, and his heirs - his son Dimitar and his grandson Simeon. “Holy Trinity” Church: Built in 1835 by local craftsmen, with the material support of Lazar German. Before the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral was built, it was the largest church in Bulgaria. The icon painters of the church were Dimitar and Simeon Molerovi, who were well-known at that time. The vault and the paintings on the columns are the result of the work of Velyan Ognev.
