Kukummi Lodge - formerly Mackaya Bella Country Lodge features a hot tub and free private parking, and is within 7.3 km of Monks Cowl Country Club and 32 km of Winterton Museum. In July 2024, we had the chance to stay in this extraordinary place, surrounded by nature. After traveling 3 km on a chaotic track, accessible only by 4x4s and SUVs, we reached Kukummi Lodge, formerly Mackaya Bella Country Lodge. Nestled in an isolated valley, this lodge is a true haven of peace, far from everything. Upon our arrival, we were warmly welcomed by the owners, Bryan and Danny, as well as Amina, our contact before the stay. Seeking to return to their roots, they left their previous life to acquire this property just a year ago. Their attention to every detail made our stay memorable. Located on the edge of the Mdedelelo Wilderness Area & Solitude park (Champagne Valley), the lodge offers superb hiking options. The landscapes are breathtaking, and each hike reveals new wonders. We enjoyed a sunny day hiking, guided by Danny who showed us the treasures of the region. We then explored the central part of the Drakensberg (Monks Cowl), and can say that this lodge is undoubtedly the gem among all those we visited during our stay. This lodge, particularly isolated, is ideal for those seeking to recharge and share special moments with the hosts. With only three rooms at that time, the experience is intimate and personalized ! As for us, we will return during our next stay in South Africa.

The Goodland Cottages is a recently renovated guest house in Champagne Valley, where guests can makes the most of its pool with a view, garden and barbecue facilities. Beautifully designed cottage with a fully equipped kitchen, great walk in shower and huge bed!! We loved our stay here! There is a great farm shop 10mins down the road which was lovely for stocking up for dinner. And the start of some lovely walks are just 20mins away

Located in Rosetta, 43 km from Hilton, Glen Ormond Country House boasts an outdoor pool and views of the mountain. Rooms are equipped with a flat-screen TV with satellite channels. Absolutely amazing stay with an amazing host and very friendly staff!

Located within 5.3 km of Monks Cowl Country Club and 25 km of Winterton Museum, Graceland Self-Catering Cottages provides rooms with air conditioning and a private bathroom in Winterton. Beautiful view. Excellent facility, and friendly staff.

Malachite Manor is a 4-star accommodation venue situated just outside Underberg in KZN. Beautiful place set in a beautiful part of the region, with modern and very well-furnished rooms. Wide ranging menu for dinner (some of the best beef we’ve had) and a beautiful garden to sit in during late afternoon

Situated within 500 metres of Winterton Museum and 17 km of Spioenkop Nature Reserve, The Garden Manor features rooms with air conditioning and a private bathroom in Winterton. Great hospitality. Comes with tea, coffee, fresh milk, bottled water. Place was so clean and so cozy. Fully equipped with a TV, wifi, air conditioning. Definitely great 10/10. The attention to detail was everything. From the little treats left on the bedside to the rusk biscuits which were so thoughtful. Super friendly owners. This will definitely be a place I would want to come back to.

The Giraffe House, a property with a garden, is situated in Winterton, 25 km from Monks Cowl Country Club, 31 km from Spioenkop Nature Reserve, as well as 35 km from Cathedral Peak Nature Reserve. It’s the perfect gateway spot for family or a group of friends. We had a great time over there. The caretaker, Mavis, made us feel so welcome. The owner, Rose, was not on the property but she was easily accessible telephonically at all times. Thank you for the experience! 🙏🏽😊👏👏

Located in Hartlea, within 21 km of Himeville Museum and 22 km of Himeville Nature Reserve, Dragons Landing Guest House provides accommodation with a garden as well as free private parking for guests... This is a beautiful spot, with lots of character and charm, every comfort, and the most stunning views. Memory, who services the house, was amazing. Lovely walks in the pine forest nearby, and horse riding with Vusi was a winner.
