I’ve stayed in a fair amount of hostels as a solo traveler, but this is one of the best I’ve ever stayed at. It is situated close to the beach & restaurant area, & the property itself has a big common area & a beautiful outside area to meet & hang out with staff & other travelers. what makes this place unique, however, is the people who run it - they are so friendly, welcoming, & really care about you. If you are thinking of coming to varkala, then “Hostel Stories” is where you want to stay at for the good vibes!

Maybe my favourite hostel after 4 months in India - I booked for 2 nights and ended up staying over a week. You can get out of bed and jump straight into the backwaters. The sunrise boat tour through the mangroves is a must (& really good value). Loved the Keralan breakfast in the morning, and appreciated being able to use the kitchen to cook my own food after travelling for ages! Attracts a great backpacker crowd and is super social in a chill way. Rooms are simple but clean and the outdoor common areas are perfect - hammocks galore. Thanks for a great stay 🌊🌴🌞

First, I booked only one night. but, I stayed there 4nights after all! It was really comfortable place and owner Afsal is so kind and he has peaceful mind. I had memorable time there with Afsal and some guests.

Dolphin Lodge offered great value for a short stay — the room was tidy, air-conditioned, and had everything needed for a comfortable night. The staff was courteous and check-in was smooth and efficient. Its location near the main bus stand made travel very convenient.
