Tashkent is clean, safe, and impressively modern in parts, yet still holds on to its rich Soviet and Silk Road-era charm. The locals are warm and respectful, the city is affordable, and the food (especially plov and samsa) is authentic and full of flavor. We loved how easy it was to take day trips to Chimgan Mountains, Charvak Lake, and the Amirsoy resort all offering beautiful nature, cable cars, and a refreshing change from city life. Tashkent is one love!
Tashkent is one love! A cozy oriental city with beautiful and welcoming people on one side - and a modern megapolis with busy downtown, great Tashkent City Mall, and the Seoul Mun nightlife street on the other. You definitely should try Tashkent Metro (one ride is hilarious $0.15!) and see the beautiful stations. But moving around the city on taxi via Yandex Go app is also more than affordable: $2-3 even from/to the airport, and $6 will take you up to Kazakhstan border! So, PLEASE, don't settle for 'smart' taxi drivers at the airport offering you a ride for $50 and even for $20! Must-sees: Amir Temur Square, Navoiy theatre, Tashkent City Park & Mall, Milliy Bog', Magic City. For nice local gifts and clothing, check out Teplo Store. And at Chorsu bazaar, keep an eye on your pockets and be careful not to eat too much - it's delicious, you just can't stop! Osh (pilaf) and shashlik (kebab) are definitely worth trying. My favourite food spots are Osh City (though a bit uptown) and Fish and Bread (many locations, including in the center)Guest review byAntonKazakhstan
