FAQs about hotels in Istanbul

The Best of Asia and Europe

The city of Istanbul offers a trip unlike any other, encompassing Asian and European cultures to create a heady mix of art, music and food. The amazing Old Town and the Sultanahmet are home to iconic Blue Mosque and the Hagia Sophia. More history is hidden in the Topkapi Palace, where you can glimpse the splendour and opulence of Turkey’s Ottoman heritage.

Take a stroll through the historic centre or the bustling Taksim Square before watching the sun set behind countless mosques and minarets. Local fish markets and numerous restaurants lining the bridge to Galata offer the Golden Horn’s daily catch.

If you prefer the fine art of bargaining to fine art, lose yourself in the Grand Bazar and maybe you’ll emerge with a hookah, some Turkish coffee, or even a carpet. The Spice Bazar further immerses you in the sights, smells, and tastes of Turkish culture.

Getting to Istanbul is an easy trip from Ataturk International Airport or Sabiha Gokcen Airport. Whether you want a luxury hotel on the Asian side or a budget hostel in Taksim Square, Booking.com has over 1,000 great accommodations for your holiday in Istanbul.

Istanbul us a lovely city, very safe, people are helpful and friendly, transport very easy to use. Having been to Istanbul now many times it Has become more expensive since last visit , especially food. Tourist attractions very expensive admission prices Group travel may not notice because prices are inclusive but individual travellers it was hard to budget for, especially for Australians.

I love history and Istanbul has it in abundance.

I love history and Istanbul has it in abundance. The Hagia Sophia and Sultanahmet Mosques are must visits. Turkish food is superb and I would highly recommend taking a guided food tour to develop an understanding and appreciation for Turkish cuisine as well as discovering more of the city. The public transport is excellent and we found ourselves using the tram service multiple times a day. We were on a short break enroute to Dubai and wished we had allowed for more time to see more of Istanbul. We’ll be back

Great place to travel and explore a secular country built and managed by Islamic culture and society. Plenty of Mosques, openly welcome and host non Muslims and foreigners. Best way to get around is by bus, 35 Turkish rial for a transit ticket on any bus or Tram route. Plenty of bars and restaurants to enjoy traditional middle eastern cuisine. Plenty of historic sites to see. Be mindful of buying Turkish saffron, sweets or silk carpet, as you will find guys on the street who has a cousin or uncle selling them both at hefty prices. If you wish to buy such items, you are in the correct country, but you should do your research for the correct sellers and suppliers.

When people say Istanbul is "the gateway to the East" or where "East meets West" it's a perfect description. It's interesting, alive, cultural, historical and has great food. I only had three days and arrived straight off 18 hours of travel so more time was definitely needed to see what i wanted to see and really experience Istanbul fully. I would recommend the relaxing experiences first, perhaps a cruise on the Bosphorous, a Hamman or a relaxing roof top lunch. Pace yourself, it's a huge city and has a lot to offer!
