The location was perfect, on the edge of town just off the road to the wonderful Côa museum with stunning views from the large terrace. Lovely walks on the doorstep including to Santa Barbara viewpoint & the pretty town of Foz Côa. There was no one else staying but the outside space would be large enough to share , and we also had access to a large inside sitting area with use of utility room and washing machine. The apartment itself had a huge comfortable bed, nice bathroom and a small kitchinette perfectly adequate for cooking a simple meal. Mafalda was so helpful and we woke up to a large bag of fresh bread, butter, jams & fresh fruit in the morning. Thank you so much 🥰

Everything was perfect - the location, the facilities, the communication. We loved the apartment and the town. Both were perfect for our motorbike tour. Got to Moncorvo visit the church and eat at restaurant Lagar. Next day go to Foz do Sabor and eat "peixinhos do rio" at a local restaurant. Then go to Horta da Vilarica, try to find out where the Padaria is and buy the local bread - out of this world. In Foz Coa you need to see the prehistoric rock-art sites in the Coa Valley - you have never seen anything like that. And drink the local wine, eat the local cheeses, try the local sausages and enjoy the friendly people. You'll not regret it.

The region is famous for the prehistorick art on rocks depicting animals 20,000 or more years ago, but there is also a profusion of medieval castles around and cultural sites. For lovers of good wine it is also an excellent visit, the north style of food is marvellous and all is very quiet. Some roads are a bit narrow if you want to go to remote pleces... I suggest to visit with time and go visit the small places, enjoy the quiet, the occasional wild animals, and take some time to hear the local people's stories.

I travelled by train from Porto to Pocinho and Vila Nova de...

I travelled by train from Porto to Pocinho and Vila Nova de Foz Coa is the only place I found to stay before travelling by coach to Guarda. However, I was very pleasantly surprised by the facilities it had to offer and its location in beautiful countryside. It has a tourist office with a very helpful person there and I would have loved to have stayed longer to explore everything on offer but I was only there for one night.

The landscape of the area is breathtaking.

The landscape of the area is breathtaking. I definitely would have invited more time there. The museum was beautifully curated. We didn't get out to the rock carvings but with more time would have. Good restaurants accessible by quick trip by car. Excellent views of the terraced landscape and rivers!. GO!

This town was shuttered by the time we arrived, no people...

This town was shuttered by the time we arrived, no people around. No obvious overnight accommodations. Finally found the only available food at a pizzeria where they were so nice and accommodating and the food was great. In the daytime we visited the museum then did the archeological tour. Very interesting.

Just the right size.

Just the right size. One of the main attractions is the archeological park with the stone etchings. The stone buildings throughout are also very nice. The only downside is that if you don’t have a car, there is no public transportation so the taxi fares add up, but it is worth it.
