Only there for a short time - only chose Taupo as it was central to all those attending the reunion. Great selection of cafe's to meet & dine in, with free parking. You've GOT to get out on the water one way or another and...
You've GOT to get out on the water one way or another and the big thing to see is the rock carvings. The waterfront is beautiful to stroll along, especially if you enjoy street art, and Taupo boasts the world's coolest MacDonald's. A variety of shops are set out in the easy to navigate grid and close together with plenty of cafes, bars and restaurants - I went to Robert Harris twice as it was so good. Huka Falls is worth seeing (keep walking north from it to hot water beach) and there's a container if you walk back on the south side towards the park from there selling awesome wedges with sour cream and sweet chilli sauce.Guest review byElizabethUnited Kingdom - 10.0

An awesome vibe, felt very relaxed and enjoyed the leisurely walk along the lake front. Cobb & Co had brilliant service and the food was exceptional, in fact it was so nice we had tea there two nights in a row. The Millennium Resort was a great place to stay and the lake view from our bedroom highlighted our stay. The ‘Grotto’ is definitely worth the experience if you stay at The Millennium. We had an amazing meal at Embra - top class. Also a good meal at Lionels on the lakefront. We walked along the Lions walk which runs along the side of the lake then went shopping in town. We were lucky with the weather, being a freezing cold overnight temperatures but stunning sunny blue sky days. We enjoyed a beautiful soak in the Wairakei Thermal Terraces one day and I thrashed my husband at minigolf the next. So all in all it was a great place to stay. Very big tourist destination, love it how theres so much to see and do there, definitely coming back, Just checked out Crater moon Huka falls and the dam release. Taupo is for those that like to be outdoors.
Taupo is for those that like to be outdoors. From the different walks that show off the thermal landscape, multiple mountain bike trails, boats tours and fishing on the lake and the wonderful lakeside walkway. The. For rhe kids you have multiple playgrounds, the Lions train in town, the lilliput animal park (wonderfully friendly owners), de Brett's spa park, accomodations with thermal pools, mini golf and it just goes on and on. 1 hour to rotorua, 30 minutes to Turangi and heaps of other places around and hour to two away. Taupo is a prefect holiday spot year round or a base for you central Noeth Island exploring as the Restaurant options and accomodation options quality are well above surrounding areas.Guest review byTiffanyNew Zealand
