Really clean and quiet hotel on the edge of the town. They have free bikes which was great to cycle to the local restaurants and the ancient city. There is also free laundry, though I didn't make use of it in the end but good to know for fellow backpackers. Bed was comfortable, AC worked really well, hot shower. My room was spotless. The staff are excellent and extremely kind. I had an unpleasant encounter during my time in Anuradhapura and Lakshan was very kind. The owner Sagara also reached out to me which was so thoughtful. Highly recommend staying here, I felt safe there as a solo female traveller.

Chaya is a wonderful hostess, who welcomed us to her home with extraordinary warmth. She made sure we are well-fed, our excursions are well-organised with very professional drivers for very reasonable prices. The house itself sits in a lovely tropical garden full of various wildlife, which was very interesting to watch. It is on the outskirts of the city, far from the noise, yet close and accessible to all the attractions. There is an outside kitchen, where all the meals are made and the cooking classes are done with an open fire and freshly grated coconuts. Definitely recommend for those who would like to get immersed in the authentic, local life, eat delicious home-made food and discover all the centuries old secrets that the city of Anaradhapura and its surroundings hold.

The owner gave me very accurate advice for every circumstance:) the family is very nice, feel very cozy staying there. Every offer, such as accommodation cost, Tuktuk fee going around ancient city, taxi from airport, are very reasonable that is well-considered for tourist to spend not too much money. I highly recommend this place to everyone :)

Nimal was really nice, hospitable and always willing go an extra mile, anything you need he will find it. He arrange a bicycle for free and went to see the temples around. Also companied me to see the sunset in his bike. He is a good man will take you to eat at local and cheap places. Thanks 😊

Super Kind and welcoming family, offered to cook us dinner which was really amazing. The Place was also very clean and Nice, I guess quite New. I liked the Garden as well.

We had a truly wonderful stay at Diyakawa Boutique Hotel! This beautiful, small-scale hotel is run by incredibly kind local owners who take genuine care of their guests. Everything radiates peace, warmth, and heartfelt hospitality. One of the absolute highlights was the cooking experience they regularly organize — and it’s even included for guests. Such a unique and fun way to get to know the delicious Sri Lankan cuisine. The hotel is also one of the best places to eat in the area. The food is absolutely amazing, and the service is exceptionally friendly. It’s possible to eat at the lake, which is amazing. A lovely moment was when the owners’ twelve-year-old daughter came over to chat with our kids — such a sweet girl, and already speaking good English! Also the hotelmanager Deepthi extended the service by advising our food, explaining the history of Anarudhapura and entertaining the kids in the evening. The pool is wonderfully refreshing, and the view over the lake is simply stunning. A peaceful oasis to return to after a day of exploring. Plus, it’s the perfect base for a visit to the ancient city of Anuradhapura. Highly recommended for anyone looking for personal service, relaxation, and authentic Sri Lankan hospitality.

Staff were exceptionally attentive. Breakfasts were delicious; on our 3rd day we were asked if we would like the sri lankan breakfast- it was great, thank you. Room was very comfortable. Reception area was very pleasant. We did a lot of walking around the ancient city.

One highlight of my stay was the early morning packed breakfast provided for our Wilpattu tour at 5:30 am. It was a thoughtful touch that allowed us to start our day of exploration on the right foot. Moreover, the presence of an organic coconut and mango grove on the premises added a delightful tropical touch to the experience, showcasing a commitment to sustainability and locally sourced produce.
