We stayed for two nights and it was a fantastic time. The breakfast and dinner were super delicious and the staff is so friendly and helpful. The also organised us a safari trip to wilpattu and a very nice transfer to negombo. The hotel has a very nice pool, the place is so lovely with a very green and beautiful environment.

Everything! One of the best places we have stayed. Amazing staff who are sweet, kind and incredible personal service. Serene surroundings. The design of the villa is incredible. Very beautiful room. Wonderful food and we had a great cookery demonstration. Dinner on the roof top was very special. Thank you for an amazing stay!

Owner of the property - Chaya , was very hospitable and helpful. She helped us to organize a tuk tuk tour around Anuradhapura with a private guide - Adid (super nice guy with a big knowledge). The apartment was huge, clean and with air conditioning. Nothing was missing. The food , that Chaya made for us , was delicious. The best we had tried in Sri Lanka (really). We regret that our stay was so short and we missed the cooking classes…maybe next time. I highly recommend this apartments. Greetings from Poland

This place has everything you need, even an adapter for charging your phone. The hosts are very friendly, gave a lot of info about visiting the temple complex and you can even rent a bicycle. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious, a mix of local and continental food. A lot of thought has been put into making this beautiful place, nothing is missing. There is a garden also and lots of plants. You won't feel cramped here, the rooms are very spacious and also clean.

The view from the room is super beautiful, the vocation is a little bit outside of the city Center what makes it really calm and natural. When I sat on the terrace I saw monkeys and palm trees. The best part of this place is the host family who treated me super kindly and made me part of the family for the time I stayed at their place. The owner of the property took me to a lot of hidden places and when I got hungry he dropped me at a really nice restaurant. I am really grateful I got to know them!

Fantastic place! I have used various accommodation options in Sri Lanka - from budget places to the best 5 star hotels. Staying here was one of my best experiences. Super clean room and bathroom, very nice and lovely owners and delicious food. Absolutely wonderful option in Anuradhapura!

Great location behind the main street but quiet (except when a occasional train goes by). Looks nicely renovated and the staff were really lovely and helpful. Room was simple but clean, stairs into the bathroom are a bit steep. Aircon worked well.

During my stay, the property owner made several inappropriate and judgmental comments about my affordability and my decision to share meals with my mother, who is disabled. His behaviour was rude and discriminatory. After I posted my review describing my disappointment, the owner contacted me directly on my personal mobile number using very abusive and offensive language. This message was completely unacceptable and made me feel unsafe.

We loved our Homestay chez Olivia . Lovely couple very hospitable and helpful. Hired bikes which was wonderful to go see all the Stupa sites etc. beautiful area & lovely garden. Birdlife was fabulous. Highly recommend

Anuradhapura is an amazing and spiritual place.

Anuradhapura is an amazing and spiritual place. It's different from the other sites in Sri Lanka because it still attracts so many pilgrims to its religious sites. It's a good idea to dedicate one day to visiting the active pilgrimage sites and the next to the historical sites, for which you need a ticket. Remember to cover up with long trousers and sleeves and don't forget your socks, because the ground is really hot and you have to take off your shoes everywhere. If you have an extra day, you can also return to the sites at night, which is when pilgrims light candles. Make sure you've got the Pick Me app installed and look out for a tuk tuk driver called Nisha. He's absolutely amazing: great driver, kind and attentive and with good English. For dinner, the atmospheric Hotel Shalini is a good bet. The Seedevi family restaurant is another good place. If you want to have a beer, they can put you in a separate 'family' room, or you can go to the tiny 'pub' next door.

It is one of the best locations, slightly hot and humid, but if you love history and sightseeing, you cannot miss this location, further you can travel to multiple historic locations from here, we travelled to Mihinthale Temple and Mahiyangana, the drive was scenic, but Mihinthale will take your breath.

Anuradhapura, one of the world's oldest continuously...

Anuradhapura, one of the world's oldest continuously inhabited cities, is a treasure trove of ancient history that stretches back to the 4th century BCE. Established by King Pandukabhaya, it served as the majestic capital of Sri Lanka for over a millennium, playing a pivotal role in the island's Buddhist heritage and cultural evolution. The arrival of Buddhism in Sri Lanka, introduced by Mahinda Thera in the 3rd century BCE, marked a transformative era for Anuradhapura. This led to the creation of awe-inspiring stupas, monastic complexes, and elaborate water reservoirs that showcase the ingenuity of the time. Central to this transformation is the revered Sri Maha Bodhi tree, a sapling believed to have been taken from the very tree under which the Buddha attained enlightenment, which continues to be a powerful pilgrimage site. Anuradhapura flourished as a vibrant hub of trade, culture, and religion. Its stunning architecture, exemplified by monumental structures like the Ruwanwelisaya and the Jetavanaramaya, reflects the extraordinary vision and craftsmanship of its builders—each stone telling a story of devotion, power, and artistry. Despite facing invasions and natural calamities that eventually led to its decline in the 10th century CE, Anuradhapura's legacy endured. The capital shifted to Polonnaruwa, but Anuradhapura remained a beacon of historical significance, earning its status as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Small, comfortable hotel just north outside of Anuradhapura proper, quite beautifully built in Sri Lankan country style, with beautiful views on the peaceful surrounding rice fields, expertly run by the site manager Ashan, who also is a proficient IT troubleshooter and an excellent cook. A short tuktuk ride from the town, this is a quiet and pleasant place.
