FAQs about hotels in Tokyo

See It to Believe It!

The capital of Japan, Tokyo is a vast, teeming metropolis nestled between mountains and Tokyo Bay. It’s so huge that you’ll have to come to grips with public transport and maybe even experience being pushed onto a train. Yes, it does actually happen!

Get your bearings by ascending the Tokyo World Trade Centre near the waterfront, and savour the fantastic views taking in the red-and-white Tokyo Tower and Shinkuju’s skyscrapers. North is Ueno, home to the best museums (including the Tokyo National Museum) and a large park bursting with cherry blossom in spring.

Equally tranquil are the Chiyoda Imperial Palace and Gardens, surrounded by water. Also in gardens is the Meiji Jingu Shinto shrine in Shibuya, a youthful district where neon abounds.

For more traditional Japanese culture, head to Asakusa whose Sensō-ji Buddhist temple is Tokyo’s oldest temple. Markets in the grounds sell a variety of wares, though shopping in Tokyo is, of course, fantastic wherever you go.

Whether you stay in a Japanese ryokan, luxury Tokyo hotel or a hostel, don’t fly out of Tokyo Narita Airport or Haneda Airport without having tried sushi. Another Japanese institution is the sento (public bath) and onsen (hot springs bath) – a must try. Also incredibly popular are Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea, Asia’s 2 most visited theme parks.

We didn't spend long in Tokyo this trip, only a night at each end of the trip, however we have spent longer on earlier trips. Tokyo is an enormous busy place and there is much to see there, but try to avoid traveling on the metro at busy times if you can. You can find something to suit almost any interest in a big city like this.

I managed to achieve a couple of my objectives but missed out on one other experience I particularly wanted to do. Tokyo is a great city with so much to do and see. But you need to energy to get around a massive city with huge numbers of people in train stations that aren't easy to navigate. Their train system is amazing but takes a lot of effort to master - even the locals have problems.

Tokyo is a fascinating city, with endless places to explore, beautiful gardens, excellent restaurants. One great surprise was how much a liked visiting/participating in the Shibuya Crossing (the busiest pedestrian crossing in the world aka "the Scrabble"). It was a joyful and incredible experience.

Our second visit to Tokyo and we loved it even more this time. The city has so much to offer to travellers: culture, phenomenally good food, drink, shopping, excellent and affordable transport, and customer service is exceptional.

Tokyo was everything that I had expected from the "research" that I had done for months before our trip. It was safe, clean, organized and multifaceted! Some areas were modern, trendy, glitzy, and camp; other areas were serene, medieval, traditional. Please check the goldmine of information that is available on YouTube (and other sources) before you go to find things that interest you and things that may surprise you! We even managed to find out how to navigate the subway system; not bad for a couple in their late 70's!

We found a couple of good places for visitors to view Tokyo...

We found a couple of good places for visitors to view Tokyo such as the Tokyo Gov't building tower in Shinjuku. Ueno Park in Ueno was also a good place to visit. Asakusa was interesting however just tailored for tourists with inflated prices. Tsukiji outer market was bustling but long ques and greatly inflated prices took away the attraction. The subways are amazing and very efficient however older folks need to be aware that distances, stairs and navigating within these subways can be quite daunting. One sushi place we quite enjoyed was Miura Misaki Port in Ueno. English speaking tourists should be aware that communication can be challenging and technology is used to place orders using tablets and QR codes. There are no rubbish bins and when you order food from a street vendor there is generally no place to sit and eat. You are either forced to go into places if you want to sit and eat or drink or take it home. On any future trips to Japan we will try to venture into less touristic areas.

Everything. I thought the room was gonna be smaller, but it was perfect. We absolutely loved the fact that the bus limousine from Narita airport stopped exactly at the hotel. We also took the same bus on the way to the hotel. With parents of a certain age and luggages it was the best option. The hotel was really nice and the room was clean. There was also the possibility to rent pajamas for free and freebies such as masks, hair conditioner, hair bands, teas, etc., which we really appreciated. Staff was amazingly nice.

- Wonderful staff - Clean room and sufficient facilities/amenities - Quiet neighbourhood For future travelers, please be noted that the hotel is located near Higashi Shinjuku station (Oedo and Fukutoshin line) and not the main Shinjuku Station. It will take around 15-20 minutes walk or just a quick 1 station travel using the train. It is still a walkable distance to a lot of shopping place (i.e. Don Quiojote and pharmacies selling all the good stuffs).

We loved the view of Tokyo from a huge window at the foot of our bed. We loved the cherry blossom trees in the park at the front of our hotel. We loved the reception staff and their gentle manner. My husband is disabled and found the reception disabled facilities excellent. But he found the hotel room difficult to manouevre around due to lack of space.
