I have always wanted to visit Penne since I am named for the...
I have always wanted to visit Penne since I am named for the town. No, I’m not Italian. My parents had looked at a map of Italy, saw the name & the rest is history. I was not disappointed. We wandered into the old town where we stumbled upon the Archaeological Museum. The ladies were most accommodating. We received a tour of all 10 rooms with one of the older docents and a young man who used my phone with Google Translator to record her words, edited them for clarity & then we could read the mini-lecture in English. It was wonderful. The young man then escorted us to the Bar Centrale where we refreshed ourselves & then easily walked to our parked car. I want more time to explore there. Roads around Penne can be hilly, having a car can be useful. I had friends staying in the town so that was helpful. If you are young and energetic you can see more of the town in less time than I did. Panoramic views are beautiful; regret I cannot remember names of restaurants, I have been to some outside the town too. One can take bus to Pescara beautiful beaches with all facilities and several restaurants. I would personally avoid the heat of July/August in future.Guest review byAnonymousUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Penne is a really cute bustling town with many interesting areas to walk and explore the historic town, shops and parks. The town is progressive with QR codes for many of the historic sites. The winding ride up to Penne can be fun for the driver but not so much for passengers. It appears to be a hub for the region and can feel a little too busy at times with cars along the main highway dividing the historic town from the rest of the town.
