The Ramanna Ashram and especially the Skandashram which is. delightful short trek up the hill are by themselves well worth the visit to the small town. Choose a day that is not very auspicious and you will have a quiet and reflective time at the ashram. Aim to spend more than a day.. The Arunachalam temple is truly awe inspiring (as all grand Chola temples are) but alas made less rich by a clunky and indifferent management, dirty surroundings, throngs of pilgrims, rude staff and clumsy barricades.. The temple is worth more as an architectural gem than a devotional destination, in line with other Chola/Pallava gems in Tamil Nadu. There are a many places to stay it seems but no 5 starrers. I visited Thiruvannamalai Annamalaiyar Temple with my sister on the eve of the Full Moon on 7/8/25 to get the blessings of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. The people both at TSR Vivitha Grand and the temple folks were genuinely kind respectful and very trustworthy folks. We went for the Girivalam walk and must say it was challenging due to the gravels pathway but nevertheless my sister and I completed the 14km walk in 5 hours. The next day we did the Annadhanam along the Girivalam path to 300 sadhus and devotees. It with god's blessings and Iyer Kanna and his friend of 30 years Murthy Uncle who guided us throughout our stay and walked with us on the Girivalam path were our true blessings in our spiritual journey to Tiruvannamalai.Guest review byPremchand - 10.0

I have been here twice and I really like the vibe of this holy town, its easy to roam around with rental bikes offered by multiple vendors. Tiruvanamalai hosts not only Arunachaleswar Temple, It hosts a lot of ashrams. The ashrams I love to visit are Ramanasramam, Skandasramam - the one on the hill top next to Ramanasramam that can be acceess from Ramanasramam and from the street adjacent to Ramanasramam, Yogiram Surat Kumar Asramam, and Seshadri Asramam. Ultimate spiritual experience . Read about it , know every place where to go in this temple city and only then pack your bags . Go well equipped with the knowledge of what to do , how to cover everything and explore the unseen temples, asrams and hill. Ramanashram is a must go , Giri pradakshina is a must do.
