The beauty of the area was what I had hoped to find in Indonesia. It just took a bit to find it. A windy journey up into the hills made for an exhilarating welcome to the mountainous area of Bali. A lovely escape from the scooters & vehicles of Ubud & Legian, I can highly recommend the rice field walk & a visit to Gembleng Waterfall. Up in the mountains for a breath of fresh air. Waterfalls are plenty and easy accessable by scooter or car. Plenty of eateries and places to make your own silver ring. Sidemen is very beautiful place to visit and stay. It is very calm and peaceful with the stunning nature. Local people are very welcoming and helpful. But in my case I struggled to get around. I’m a solo traveler, who unfortunately doesn’t ride motorbike. So unless you hire private driver (which can be pricey when traveling solo) you just have to walk around. I love long walks, but be ready that there are many stray dogs, which were very very scary for me. They seemed quite aggressive - barking, heading towards… I ended up asking local people for help and drive me where I needed in the middle of my “walk”. So it is really perfect place to relax and calm mind, but if you don’t drive and you are on a budget, 1-2 days will be enough.Guest review byDanielaSlovakia - 10.0

Like Ubud 20 years ago. Magical, traditional, peaceful. So green and lush with farmers growing the most exceptional produce. Everyone we met were so welcoming, little English from most locals which means you have to make an effort to learn some local Bahasa language. The most important thing is eye contact, a smile and a nod of the head to acknowledge another human being with respect. The children are delightful and for the children whose parents can afford to send them to school, English is a subject they learn, and they seem to enjoy any practice they can get. If you crave a Bali holiday away from nightclubs, loud music, aggressive shop owners, Sidemen is the perfect place.Guest review byAnonymous
