Dubrovnik is a wonderful city to visit but can get very busy. Early morning and late afternoon are the best times to visit the main sites if you want to avoid the tour groups. Really enjoyed the Old Town despite all of the Game of Thrones tours! Although there were lots of quite expensive bars and restaurants, we found some reasonable and very good places, especially for seafood and cocktails. Best time to walk the city walls was late afternoon, after most of the cruise ship groups had gone. Although there was a cable car up to the top of Mt Sdj, we walked up the path, which was great and took about 50 mins. Dubrovnik is very expensive and full of American tourists who, unfortunately, come to the city only because of the filming locations. The Old City and the Harbour were our favoirate places during the 2 days. We bought food at the supermarket close to us and preapared simple dishes in our kitchen, The bus service was excellent. I don't think we have ever eaten as well on a short city break as we did in Dubrovnik. The cafes, restaurants and bars were excellent. We particularly loved the Carmen Trattoria. I would recommend a trip on the cable car for superb views of the city, coast and mountains and a walk around the city walls is a 'must do'. We have a full itinerary planned with tours and restaurants booked. However our original flight was cancelled and we were moved to the earlier flight so lost several hours. Would have like an extra day to maybe enjoy a local boat trip or sunset cruise. Our two girls loved every minute of the swimming pool, and being close to Dubrovnik, but yet not right there made for a relaxing and easy going holiday.
