It's an amazing trip experience that combines both the sea side stuff and the full comfort of a city. You can find small beaches along the shore, and a large embankment right across the venetian port that is perfect for evening walks (it has approx.. 2,4 km in length). There are also a lot of restaurants and bars you can hop into. I would dearly recommend Peskesi, Petousis, Sir Papafigos, Parasties for food, Take five or Toucan Skybar for drinks, but there are a lot more that are waiting to be discovered. Iraklio has a lot of small good restaurants, serving the local food. It looks bigger than it is, because there is such life, and many shops. Its not a city with many sights, so you have to be prepared to take some small trips på Knossos, Archanes, the lashiki plateau, a local beach and so on. Its a beautiful old city with plenty to do and see for a short stay. Within 3 days I got to know the old city, wander the streets, shop, visit museums, and eat delicious local cuisine. Our only trip out of town was Knossos. If I was staying longer I would visit beaches and Spinalonga Island. A wonderful little town. Stavros and his father welcomed us in the appartment and introduced us to the (shared) rooftop terrace. The appartment features 2 AC's and a modern bathroom with a deluxe shower.
