Windermere town centre is small but has plenty of cafes and restaurants to meet all food lovers types. There are a good selection of shops for gifts etc. and all are within a few hundred yards and not too far from the railway station or buses to travel to other parts of the lakes. It is also a 10 to 15 minute walk to Bowness (downhill) which is also the place to hop on to the lake boats or alternative dining or shopping and the Beatrix Potter experience. We had our honeymoon in Windermere many years ago, so revisiting places. Windermere is a beautiful location with plenty to do for all the family. Easy to get around with buses to the Lakes if no car. The area is stunningly beautiful and the people are so friendly and chatty. It was a real pleasure to be there. I'd recommend a day tour just so you see everything. A short distance to the Windermere town centre, however, walking to the Windermere Lake took much longer than we had expected. The economy double room is spacious enough for 2 people. The bathroom was new and clean. The central heating switch/temperature control wasn’t working. It was on all the time which made the room too hot, so we needed to leave the window open.
