FAQs about hotels in Newcastle upon Tyne

The Spirit of the North

A former Industrial Revolution hub, Newcastle has reinvented itself into a vibrant, forward-thinking city. Although no longer brewed here, Newcastle Brown Ale, or Newkie Brown, is synonymous with the city, so it’s no surprise that the nightlife is fantastic.

From the O2 Academy to the Sage Music Centre, the Newcastle music venues are among the best in England. The city also has a thriving arts scene, including The Biscuit Factory – Britain’s largest original art store.

Equally as good is the Newcastle shopping. The Central Arcade is in an attractive Victorian building, and across the River Tyne in Gateshead is the Metro Centre, Europe’s largest shopping and leisure complex. Indeed, these 2 cities have a healthy rivalry that plays out in sport, architecture and, sometimes, the bizarre.

Gateshead boasts the Angel of The North, a huge statue that is already its most recognised (and controversial) symbol. While in Newcastle the Vampire Rabbit sits above a door near St Nicholas’ Cathedral. Newcastle United Football Club has the most prestigious record, but Gateshead Stadium has seen many a star compete at its international athletics meets.

To the west of the city are some remains of Hadrian’s Wall and further north is Newcastle Airport. See Booking.com for a range of accommodation all over this happening city.

To all you unfit people out there, just be aware that there is a climb into the main shopping/social area of Newcastle (Grey street/rd),lovely coming down it,but he'll on your legs going up the first couple of times. Lovely riverside market on Sundays that we didn't know about, food stalls from all over the world there, plus lovely little independent craft stalls. Plenty to do in town if bad weather head to the indoor food/shopping area called Eldon square, lots of shops and food retailers all under one roof, plenty of choice for everyone.

Really enjoyed that you could walk everywhere easily.

Really enjoyed that you could walk everywhere easily. Plenty of nice restaurants for an evening meal, shops were good. A classic tour around St. James Park was well worth the visit, very enjoyable. Went on the Metro to the coastal town of Tynemouth, again, well worth a visit. We also went to the theatre and saw a fabulous show. Would highly recommend Newcastle for a mid week break.

Nice city to get around and lots to see and do in it, lots of walking involved in doing this. Ate in Pleased to meet you and then went to see the tumbling paddies play at Digital, Good day and night. Walked along the quayside on sunday at the markets. Lovely time with friends.

The town centre is very compact so many of the main attractions are in easy walking distance. We came for the Mercury Awards 2025 and had a great evening with a lovely, good natured local audience. I can also recommend the Newcastle City Guide Walking Tour https://newcastlegateshead.com/newcastle-city-guides

I found the location easy to reach from the centre of Newcastle as I was travelling on public transport, there was a regular Metro service to and from Newcastle City centre to the Airport and the hotel was just a short walk across the road. The staff were friendly and helpful, the room was very clean and comfortable with all the facilities you needed like tea and coffee and a kettle, large screen tv and a small fridge. The bed was firm but comfortable and I slept well both nights.

Our second visit to this hotel, excellent both times. The rooms are a bit dated, but spacious and comfortable. The staff are friendly and helpful. Easy to access off the A1 with a large car park. Although a few miles from Newcastle city centre it is only a short bus ride from a stop outside the hotel to all the city has to offer. Perfectly located for a visit to the Racecourse, a short walk away through the hotel grounds.

Let me start by saying I enjoyed my time at the Royal Station Hotel and I would stay there again, however a few things did make me frown at times. It's a great location for anywhere central in Newcastle. Beds were comfortable but feel it's a lucky draw on the rooms. My room was a twin at the front of the hotel and was massive, my friends room a twin at the back, just fit the beds in, it was that small.

Asked for a quiet part of the hotel to stay and was very pleased with this aspect. Staff were friendly. Good location on the fringe of the city centre and near the train station. Will stay again next time I'm in Newcastle.

Lovely hotel. Great food. Great sports bar. The price was cheap and it exceeded our expectations. Only £2 in the bus to Newcastle city centre.. Would definitely go back to this hotel.
