We were using Lauder as base for visiting Edinburgh.
We were using Lauder as base for visiting Edinburgh. Just spent one afternoon exploring the town. Enjoyed sandwich and tea at a Deli and walked around castle grounds . Train into Edinburgh from Stow worked well. Also drove to Dunbar for the day.Guest review bySianUnited Kingdom - 10.0

I particularly enjoyed the warm welcome, and the atmosphere in the restaurant and bar. The food at dinner and breakfast was top quality. Butcher, baker, deli, post office and cafes in Lauder. Very close to all visitor attractions - this time, we visited National Museum of Mining , Trimontium Museum and Abbotsford. Lauder is a great village with everything you need.
Lauder is a great village with everything you need. Spotty Dog for coffee and a Scotch egg, Flat Cat Gallery for gift shopping and cake. There is a butchers, post office, pharmacy and co-op. Excellent accommodation within a beautiful building of great historical significance and set in magnificent countryside. The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful making our stay relaxing and enjoyable. I would definitely recommend the castle tour. Cosy lounge. Delightfully warm with easily adjusted thermostat. Parking space right outside the door (apart from one day but we were able to get one a few steps away). Easy access to the town, where we highly recommend the Black Bull Hotel for their restaurant. So many lovely places to visit within 30 minutes drive and stunning views around every bend and corner!
