The hosts Bev & John were wonderful.
The hosts Bev & John were wonderful. Their house is attached to the holiday accommodation but they never invade your privacy. If you do need them they are always available. Perfect. The accommodation is furnished well with all the equipment you will need. We were provided with a well stocked arrival pack. The terrace, gardens and pool are perfectly kept. The views are wonderful and as there is very little light pollution the night sky is outstanding. We loved it so much we’ve booked to go back next year. Alcala is a working town and busy during the day.
Alcala is a working town and busy during the day. Our stay was Mon/Tues where we found many bars and restaurants closed. The main reason to visit for a tourist is the spectacular La Mota fortress dominating the town. This is special. The "Old Town" in Alcala has some lovely architecture and is low rise so presents a nice vista from higher up and at nightime. However, many shops in this area had closed down or were banks which left it soul less. The newer town was more lively during the daytime but is indistinguishable from many other Spanish towns. For me a 2 night stay was too long. A day trip would satisfy my touristy needs. Our favourite place to have a drink and eat was Cafe Bar Europa in the new town, although this is a bit biased as other places were closed. It was at the tail-end of the season and only mine and one other room was occupied, so of course the reception was not manned full-time.
