The carnival time is one of the best times to enjoy Mindelo. Very colourful, lots of excitement and great atmosphere. You should try the local food, cachupa and the kamoka ice cream. The city is quite compact, and you can easily explore the entire city center in a day. The more rural areas on the outskirts are less attractive, but I didn’t feel unsafe there. There are plenty of great bars and restaurants with live music in the evenings. Le Metalo was my favorite—both the food at the restaurant and the street food were excellent. The Municipal Market was a lovely spot, offering a variety of local souvenirs along with some random Chinese goods. The boutiques were similar—featuring a mix of local products and many Chinese-made items. The architecture is a blend of beautifully renovated historical buildings, modern constructions, dilapidated houses, and industrial structures. The people were fantastic. I had no trouble asking for photos or advice. It probably would have been easier to communicate in Kriolu, Portuguese, or French, but English worked in most basic situations.Guest review byMagdalenaPoland - 8.0

I am orginally from Mindelo so this is home away from home. My city is easily accessible by walking or car. People are friendly and the food is amazing. The warm welcome, the clean and cosy rooms, delicious breakfast with the best pineapple cake, a good location to explore Mindelo and above all the kindest personnel (Patricia, Jessica, Brigitte,…). After our stay we had a layover for about 8 hours at Sao Vicente and they allowed us to come back to the casa to store our luggage and use a room to freshen up for free.
