This is a beautiful place and very well equipped. 2 bedrooms each with a bath and a kitchen and dining area. The top room has a balcony to watch the magnificent sunsets. It is about 10 minutes from the center of Santa Elena so you do really need a car.

My room was very clean, there was ample hot water, WiFi worked well, staff and other guests were very friendly, staff very helpful with with booking activities/transport, grocery store within walking distance, and I loved having the shared kitchen to cook my own food!

There aren't enough positive adjectives available to describe our stay here. What an amazing facility, everything was just perfect. Staff were amazingly helpful, beds so comfortable, breakfast gorgeous. And the dining experience in the treetop restaurant was divine, definitely worth doing!

I loved the concept of the hotel, it was just exquisite. I am deeply thankful for Natalia, the lovely concierge, who was just exceptionally kind and made it so that all our questions and all the activities were well arranged. I also want to thank Stephen, who took care that our room was in pristine cleanliness every time, and I also remember the lovely staff at the restaurant (Paola, Vio, Hazel, Axel, Carla) who were just a joy every time they helped for breakfast, dinner or cocktail classes. The hotel's facilities were incredible, the garden is something else to behold, the concept they have from farm (Finca Madre Tierra) to table is something deeply educational that I recommend people try, and the nightfall Savia experience with Daniel si just magical. And on top of that, there's oodles of fun to be had at the brewery, so cheers to Hotel Belmar for making it all so special for me.

What a beautiful place with wonderful people. The best part about staying here is their direct support to the local community - they donate more than half of their profits towards educational projects in the region. Therefore, when staying in this incredible place, you are directly making a difference in the lives of those less fortunate. The breakfast was superb, and we also loved the "Honesty" area where you recorded what you took, and it would be added to your bill at the end of your stay - so you did not have to go and order a glass of wine, or a beer. You would take it and write down the details for them. The location is absolutely perfect. We could easily walk to restaurants and the center of town. We had a car, however when we did different activities on one day, they were able to organize a taxi for us. The staff is wonderful and incredibly welcoming and helpful. We really cannot say enough good things about this special place. It is an inspiration, and we would love to see more places like this in the world. They would always have our support.

    If you like cooler temperatures, rainy & windy mountains in...

    If you like cooler temperatures, rainy & windy mountains in remote Costa Rica then this is for you. Its a unique experience to be that high up above sea level and theres plenty to do outside between coffee tours, ziplines & hikes. But in terms of the town itself, theres not a lot going on and its expensive but I guess thats what you pay for tranquility & remoteness. And if you're driving up there you better have a 4x4 or AWD vehicle because the majority of the roads up here are unpaved & windy AF. Spots to check out that made our trip: Don Juan Coffee Farm, the Butterfly Sanctuary, El Tigre Waterfalls, Kinkajou Night walk, 100% Aventura Ziplines for the longest Zipline in Latin America & lastly tree climbing at Finca Modelo. If you want to try authentic Costa Rican food (because hello why not!) skip out on the expensive restaurants and go to Pizzeria 3R y el Sazón de Mary - best part is that they're open late. Food was bomb! Overall, I wouldn't spend more than 2.5 days up here.

    4-wheel drive recommended, but not essential. My six-year old particularly enjoyed the animal experiences: sloths, frogs, snakes and butterflies at the Selvatura Adventure Park (which was expensive but worth it - very knowledgeable guides) and also the Bat Jungle. My favourite experience was walking the trails in the Santa Elena Cloud Forest Reserve - very well marked and options for different levels of ability.

    Loved the adventure parks (selvatura sloth rescue is a must!

    Loved the adventure parks (selvatura sloth rescue is a must!) and area restaurants Bon appetit and taco taco. Chocolate and coffee tour also worthwhile. Night tours more insect and reptile focused than in other areas. Roads in the area are very narrow and twisty, hard for motion sickness travellers.

    Great place for hikers.

    Great place for hikers. Unfortunately most places you have to pay to enter and it's not cheap. But there are a few free places you can walk if you do your research. There is loads of stuff to do for everyone. Families and adventure junkies.

    If you love the outdoors, go to Monteverde.

    If you love the outdoors, go to Monteverde. We did a coffee/sugarcane/chocolate tour, a wildlife refuge tour, night time nature walk, zip lining, and a sloth experience. There were lots of different restaurants and we loved all of the ones we visited.

    I stayed 5 nights in Monteverde because I was chasing...

    I stayed 5 nights in Monteverde because I was chasing Quetzals. I stayed couple of nights right inside the Monteverde reserve and that was great as I could be the first person in the reserve. The Quetzals were nesting around March 23rd and I saw them everyday. I also like Selvatura ziplining and Hanging bridges (a quetzal pair was nesting there too). I did not like Curi Cancha at all - waste of time as the forest is not pretty. Their birding guide (I paid for him at Curi Cancha itself) was subpar also and was showing us videos on his phone and basically not showing much wildlife. I would not recommend wasting time or money at Curi Cancha. Head to Monteverde or Santa Elena instead.

    A hotel with a hostel feeling. Staff was very nice and helpful. Great location in the middle of town, next to a big supermarket and on the street where the local bus to the Monteverde natural reserve stops. Big room and with a useful big shelf/open closet. The restaurant in the bottom floor had a nice vibe, with live music some nights. The breakfast was a la carte with six options, four taco-related, one yoghurt and one pancake option. Breakfast tasted well and was nicely served.

    Spacious room, well located and close to other restaurants so you don't have to eat at the hotel. Easy parking and very friendly staff. Not far to both cloud forests which frankly are the reason you are in Monteverde to start with. But you do need a car to get to them.

    The hotel is located at the most amazing spot in Monteverde. You can go hiking a long trail right from the hotel and enjoy really beautiful sunsets at lookout or from the windows of your room. Really enjoyed my stay there.
