Very pleasant town, excellent bus and train services.
Very pleasant town, excellent bus and train services. Very novel that one of the train lines actually runs through the town, next to the cars! Has both narrow and standard gauge railways too. Bus services were frequent and reliable. There are some great restaurants, good bakeries and some nice shops. We used it as a base to travel to other places, and the good train links made that very easy. I only had two short, separate overnighters so tired on arrival. I would have liked more time to explore the old town in daylight and also visit Arosa by train. A nice place with a lot to see.
A nice place with a lot to see. The old city is very clean and very lively, shops, people, little places, squares, little niches to rest, a nice urban settlement. There is also a very nice roman ruins place well protected by an incredible structure designed by the famous architect Peter Zumthor, who is local and had been doing a lot of projects in the area for the last 40 years, or so. Great cable car trip up the mountain with amazing views and good walking. Several good cafes/restaurants to enjoy. The old town is simply amazing and walking round both day and night was special. Easily enough to fill a couple of days prior to catching the train to Italy. Loved the open air pool, the cable car and the walk back to the city from the top of the mountain. The staff were super smiley and helpful. We were able to leave our bags for the day while we enjoyed chur and the mountains. The hotel gave us access to a tourist card which cut the cablecar price in half and the evening we arrived there was a BBQ where you paid what you felt it was worth.
