We had a wonderful stay at Ganda Rooms and Suites and really enjoyed the city of Ghent. We used it as a home base to visit Ypres and Bruges, both of which we'd highly recommend, but Ghent was our favorite city in Belgium. Annik & Kristof are wonderful hosts, and their home is beautiful. We enjoyed the breakfast with fresh baked bread, meats, muesli, fruit, and eggs made to order. We would highly recommend a stay here

FAQs about hotels in Ghent

A Historical, Cultural and Culinary Gem

Located in the Flemish region of Belgium, the beautiful medieval city of Ghent is not only a city of history, but also a romantic place to visit. The city is full of hidden historical, cultural and culinary gems that you can easily discover.

The Gravensteen or 'Castle of the Count' is a deceptively enchanting sight dating back to the Middle Ages. Constructed by Philip of Alsace, the count of Flanders, it's partially surrounded by a moat and beautifully restored, and hosts an interesting museum about the history of prison life.

Part of the UNESCO World Heritage list, the Belfry of Ghent is a medieval tower overlooking the Old Town centre. Saint Bavo Cathedral and Saint Nicholas' Church are the city's other two towers, with St. Nicholas' Church being one of the oldest landmarks in Ghent (known as Gent in Flemish).

Enjoy a relaxing walk in the picturesque medieval streets and stop at one of the charming traditional restaurants for Belgium beer and a classic Flemish meat stew with French fries. Local delicacies include the popular Belgium chocolate and the purple jelly-filled candies called the 'noses'.

Antwerp International Airport is 52 km away, while Brussels Airport is 55 km. Just book your hotel, guest house, apartment, or B&B through Booking.com and discover everything this stunning city has to offer.

    Beautiful and pleasantly atmospheric city.

Beautiful and pleasantly atmospheric city. We were in the Yalo Boutique Hotel just a few minutes walk from the centre. Great centre with lively bars, but also quiet side streets with great restaurants and plenty of outside seating everywhere. Very relaxed atmosphere with all age groups enjoying the evening ambience. Plenty of attractions including stunning churches and the Castle of the Counts, boat trips and museums - University Science museum very good with excellent interactive information screens. Ghent is nicely situated in Belgium for trips to Bruges, Oostende and Brussels.

We were in Ghent during a long summer festival.

We were in Ghent during a long summer festival. If you like festivals this is good, it was definitely lively. We were pleased we hadn't booked accommodation right in the centre of town as it would have been very noisy at night. We found that the festival structures obscured the historic buildings in the town centre which was disappointing. Easy town to walk around. Easy train access for day trips - we went to Oostende (don't bother) and Brugge (fabulous).

Beautiful, architecturally interesting city that is easy to walk around and explore. Many shops are closed on Sundays, which was when we visited, but as we were only there for the day, we didn't have much time for shopping. Great weekend break destination. Both the vegetarians and the omnivore were pleased with their delicious lunches at Panda, seated on the river terrace (Oudburg 38, 9000 Gent).

It's a fantastic city and definitely worth a visit. Everything is within walking distance, but you can also admire it from the water. There are also many charming squares and streets lined with terraces and cafés. Beer lovers in particular will be pleased here; try Waterhuis aan de Bierkant, Dulle Griet or Bier Central for a huge selection of beers, but I am sure there are many more that are worth a visit!

There is so much to see and do in Ghent - we spent 6 nights.

There is so much to see and do in Ghent - we spent 6 nights. August trip - right in the middle of peak tourist season, but the city seemed to be able to cope with this. We had an apartment of the edge of the 'low emissions zone', and we walked everywhere. To see everything, the 'Ghent citycard' from the tourist office is a must - the price was EUR 48 (valid for 72 hours) but we used EUR 85 worth of value each. The first day was spent just getting a feel for the place - the Friday Market square, Fish market, Gravenstein, the river, etc. Walking trip to start with, then followed by an hour long boat trip, Really worth seeing the city from 'both sides'. Gravenstein electronic guided tour was a standout - one of the best systems I've encountered and narrated by a local comedian (two shows for the price of one). The 11 am Sunday tour of the two 'city palaces' is also a 'must' - and our guide was really informative - the tour was meant to be 1 hour but we almost went for 2... (and it was free - just have to book your place). Belltower is really good as well with great views over the city. Now, the food - 'food street' - restaurant after restaurant and every cuisine you can imagine - in fact finding Belgium food is the hardest part :-) Belgium beer in the afternoon while watching the boat traffic and the poor tram drivers trying to drive through the busy streets - magic.

Inside this amazing boatel it looks like a hotel so nice to see some "ship" type furniture, mirrors and ornaments. The host was extremely helpful, provided a map and a route around the beautiful ghent and helping understand the emissions rules. We had a one night stay but would live to visit again at some point.
