FAQs about hotels in Darwin

Australia's Cyclonic Cocktail

Darwin displays a cocktail of cultures from ‘Aussie larrikins’ to the local Aboriginals from Larrakia Country. Throw in an influx of international visitors who now call the Top End of Australia home, and this concoction bedazzles with busy outdoor markets and an adequate supply of drinking holes (pubs).

The modern Darwin Wharf precinct, including Stokes Hill Wharf, still gleams on those endless summer days having been rebuilt after the destruction caused both during World War II bombings and Cyclone Tracey. Grab a bar stool with a view of the harbour or a seat on a terrace and sip a cool drink in Australia’s northernmost, tropical capital city.

A popular time for tourists is Darwin’s dry season that starts in May and ends in October. If you prefer it hot and humid, then the end of the wet season can be spectacular when the waterfalls in Kakadu and Litchfield national parks are at their mightiest.

Australia’s wild frontier can be reached all the way from Adelaide and Alice Springs along the picturesque Stuart Highway that ends at Daly Street in the CBD. Outside the centre are the natural surrounds in Palmerston, Humpty Doo and closer by is Mindil Beach with its famous Sunset Market.

Darwin International Airport has international flights from Singapore and Bali. You can choose from a variety of hotels, hostels and apartments on Booking.com.

Darwin is a great winter get away option during the dry...

Darwin is a great winter get away option during the dry season over June, July and August. You could stay within the city limits if it's just warmth, a swimming pool, urban green spaces, some nice coastal walks and decent food your after. The best thing about Darwin is it is the gateway to some amazing outdoor places to visit that are not far away - Litchfield National Park and Kakadu being top priority. You'll need a hire car to make the most of it although you can take various day and multi day tours from Darwin. It's not a bargain holiday destination but no where is within Australia. Darwin is also the capital of the NT which has amazing diverse landscapes and strong Indigenous cultural presence. There are opportunities to engage with Indigenous tourism activities, especially in Kakadu National Park.

I liked the fact that we could walk to most places or use the bus service or Uber which was very reasonable price wise. The information centre were great at advising us on transport and local events as well as swimming areas and public pool areas. we agreed The wetland cruises were really informative and interesting and the bus drivers were caring and interesting in their comenteries. t My friend and I had such a good time, we could have happily stayed longer.

Darwin was so enjoyable because driving was relaxed wherever we went. Minding markets are a must Thurs & Sunday. Great food & wonderful sunsets. The history & amazing rebuilding of this city is incredible! A city that endured 2 dreadful tragedies being the Bomming in 1942 & Cyclone Tracey in 1974. Today Darwin is a vibrant city that youd never know had to re-build after such events. Great restaurants & Coffee shops

Favourite places we visited were Berri Springs, Trailer Boat Club and Zen Roof top bar. We enjoyed a great meal at Loong Fung on Cavanagh Street, also enjoyed the beef and chicken satays from Sari Nasa Satays at Parap markets on Saturday and some Barramundi at the Wharf. Darwin city is within an easy walk to the waterfront and we found it easy to get around to East point, Nightcliff, Casuarina and Mindil beach in our hire car.

Beautiful apartment with loads of space and an amazing view over Darwin's iconic waterfront. Located between the city and the waterfront, it's only a short walk to either. We spent most of our time sitting out on the balcony, on the very comfortable furniture. The apartment was sparkling clean, and the beds very comfortable. Would book again in a heartbeat!
