The Gjirokastër Castle is a must-see, offering sweeping views of the valley and a glimpse into Albania’s past. The town is walkable and peaceful, making it perfect for slow exploration. Local food is authentic and affordable, and people are welcoming and proud to share their culture. The castle is an absolute must.
The castle is an absolute must. Take your time as there's a lot to see. The bazar is colourful, worth a stroll but quite touristic. Interesting is a visit to the Zekate House and the Ethnographic Museum. And if you stay a bit longer, a visit to the (Unesco) Butrint Park is worthwhile (and in that case take the road via Muzine, since it will give you beautiful views.) Though there're many good restaurants, the KUKA restaurant (opposite the Mosque) was our absolute favorite: excellent food, friendly and professional service in a beautiful gardensetting.Guest review byMichaelNetherlands - 10.0
We stayed for two nights and visited the Llixhat e Bënjës...
We stayed for two nights and visited the Llixhat e Bënjës thermal baths on our second day. In the evenings, the Old Town was lively, with lots of people and plenty of open restaurants serving both traditional Albanian dishes and more western options. The castle is very affordable and well worth a visit - it covers history from antiquity through to World War II and offers stunning panoramic views over Gjirokastër.Guest review byAliceUnited Kingdom

Isabella was really helpful in sorting our bus to Berat the day we checked out and we were able to leave our luggage in the dining room while we explored Gjirokaster.
