Best value for money so far in Sri Lanka. Great location by the river. We saw some tree snakes, peacocks and chipmunks. Nice balcony to chill on with breakfast. Air con was perfect and adjustable. Nice towels.

My recent stay at Charming Dark Lodge in River was nothing short of exceptional, marking it as the best homestay experience I have ever encountered. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warmth and hospitality that exceeded all expectations. The highlight of our stay was undeniably our incredible host, who spared no effort in ensuring our comfort and satisfaction. From delicious lunches and dinners to delightful surprises and the most mouth-watering fish barbecue - probably the best meal I have had in the two months I have been in Sri Lanka. Beyond the culinary delights, our room was a sanctuary of comfort and style. Immaculately clean, equipped with a kitchen containing everything one could possibly need, and beautifully built and decorated. Originally intending to stay for four nights, we found ourselves captivated by the charm of Charming Dark Lodge, extending our stay to twelve nights. Departing was bittersweet, as we had grown attached to the unparalleled hospitality and the tranquil ambiance of our temporary home. A particularly memorable moment was celebrating my birthday during our stay. Our host went above and beyond to ensure it was an unforgettable occasion, adding a personal touch that truly made me feel special. Without a doubt, if I ever find myself in Sri Lanka again, Charming Dark Lodge will be my first choice for accommodation. Wonderful place close to the beach, but still quiet and secluded. The hosts are super nice and helpful. Several bungalows are hidden in green, vast area so you feel isolated from other guests. The pool is great :). Breakfasts are diversified, so every day you can try different meal. Walking distance, 3 min., to Midigama center. We will most ceirtainly come back!

This is a gem in the area and the best accommodation we had in all Sri Lanka! Super clean, delicious varying breakfasts, very comfortable and spacious rooms, and extremely friendly and helpful hosts. We wish we could have stayed longer! The wifi was fast enough to work and do videocalls and it was nice to have access to a little kitchen too.

Perfect End to Our Sri Lanka Trip – Highly Recommended! After traveling around Sri Lanka for three weeks, we ended our holiday at this villa hotel, and it was truly amazing! From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel so welcome. They were hospitable, attentive, always smiling, and eager to help with any request. A special shout-out to Leel and Roshan for making our stay extra special! The hotel itself was fantastic—clean, well-maintained, and very comfortable. Breakfast was delicious, with plenty of options to choose from. Lunch and dinner were also excellent, with a variety of well-priced and well-prepared dishes. The seafood platter was a highlight—huge, flavorful, and customizable to our preferences. I highly recommend trying it! The seating area and pool were perfect for relaxing, and the beautiful sandy beach was just a short walk away. One of the most memorable experiences was witnessing three turtles nesting at night and then seeing the government team collect the eggs in the morning. On our final day, we were lucky enough to watch baby turtles being released into the ocean—an unforgettable experience! If you're looking for a peaceful, relaxing getaway, this is the perfect place. From start to finish, we felt completely at ease and in holiday mode. We couldn’t find a single fault—highly recommended!

Good wifi, massive lawn, and my personal favourite- monster lizard. It lives in the lawn. You can walk to the beach and all the eateries. Manu is very resourceful and can get you most of the things. Just ask him!

The perfect place to spend your vacation! If you want peace and quiet, this is the place to go. You are given an entire bungalow with a separate kitchen and lounge area. You will be the only guest at Channe's and all the host's attention will be on you. Lovely non repetitive breakfasts that will be cooked for you by your host, we were delighted! Channe, very hospitable, will always offer tea or any other help. You can also hire a bike from him for a good price and get a shuttle to the airport. The bungalow was very clean and bug free. Great bed with a good mattress. Will greatly miss our conversations at breakfast) Will definitely come back here again!!!!
