This guesthouse is truly a gem, Brian makes sure you have an amazing stay! You can tell he really cares about his guests. The room and bathroom are very clean and comfortable. The food is incredible too (plenty of vegan and vegetarian options)! I did a 2 night jungle trek with them as well and everything was very well organised, great food and fruit on the trek, comfortable campsites by the river and close to a waterfall. You could tell that the guide really enjoyed being in nature, he had so much knowledge about the animals and plants and made us feel really safe. I got a bee sting and he had magic oil that made the sting disappear in just 30 min! I had a really great stay and trek with Brian and his team and definitely recommend them and would definitely come back one day! :)

JUNGLE LIFE GUEST HOUSE - Trekking & Transport Only Book With Us is set in Bukit Lawang and has a pool with a view and river views. For our family, Bukit Lawang was absolutely one of the best places best have ever been. The stay at Jungle Life Guesthouse was superb. We ended up staying 2 weeks, so we got a much fuller cultural experience getting to know the owners. Alek is very friendly and enthusiastic, and Nabil was very attentive and helpful. They were great organizers of our 2-day jungle trek. (Which can be physically challenging, but if our nearly 60 year old mom can do it, so can you!) They were hosts who went out of their way for us on multiple occasions. We loved our experience at jungle life guest house and hope to be back.

Words can’t fully express how amazing our experience at Lucky Bamboo was. Johny, Kela, Obi, and their family (yes, even the family dog that we love) made us feel like we were reconnecting with long-lost relatives. It was truly one of those magical travel experiences that remind us why we love exploring the world. The three days we spent there flew by in the blink of an eye. The jungle trek with Kela was unforgettable—he knows the forest like the back of his hand and shared so much fascinating information with us. He answered all our questions with incredible patience and made sure we were well taken care of the entire time. The way he prepared our fruits and meals was fantastic. Ending the trek with a river journey back was the cherry on top of an already perfect experience. We’re so glad we did it! As for the room, if you need a bit more space, definitely ask Johny for Room 1—it’s perfect for two. Yes, it can be a little damp, especially during the rainy season, but that’s part of the charm of staying in a bamboo hut surrounded by nature. The room was clean, and while there’s only cold water, it felt perfect for the natural setting. What was really important for us was that they had a mosquito net! Plus, the family-like atmosphere more than made up for any small inconveniences—we wouldn’t trade it for anything. If you’re open to trying local breakfast options, they source delicious lontong sayur and other local dishes. The family truly goes above and beyond to make your stay comfortable—you just need to ask. Lucky Bamboo was hands down the best highlight of our Sumatra trip. We can’t wait to come back! P.s did I even mention they have the loveliest garden?

Providing garden views, SeaGate Bungalows in Sabang offers accommodation, a private beach area, an open-air bath and a garden. The snorkeling in front of the bungalows is good. Borja and YunYun are very accomodating. Services like scooter rental and laundry are offered. There is also a dog (give him some nice scratches to become friends). The bungalows were also very nice.

A recently renovated guest house situated in Bukit Lawang, Kupu Kupu Garden Guest House & Cafe features a garden. This beachfront property offers access to a balcony. As a solo traveler traveling in low season, I expected there might be some inconveniences. however, the staffs of Kupukupu helped me to overcome all the difficulties, planning and arranging my trips well with good value. I also like the cookings from their kitchen. You need to order dinner in the morning then they can buy fresh food in the day and cook the dishes well. I tried some other restaurant with high rating in the village, unfortunately, their food are not fresh at all. I really appreciate the Kupu Kupu kitchen prepares the dishes with heart, even for one single guest.

Casa Nemo is owned by an Acehnese woman who prioritizes cultivating beautiful experiences and running an ethical, eco-friendly business. The entire resort is beautifully manicured with fruit trees and flowers everywhere. Everything here is done with intention and love. The staff take great pride in their work. Aceh Heritage Village: Right when you walk in, you'll see two beautifully restored historic Acehnese houses featuring hand carved and painted decorations. This is totally unique on the island, and it's a must-see. Sometimes there are events there, so check with the resort to see about the schedule. The restaurant: The restaurant is stunning with an inviting porch that reveals the ocean and the lush landscape. The food is delightful with a mix of Indonesian and Western options. I am gluten free with a sensitive stomach. The restaurant always accommodates my dietary restrictions, and I always feel good after I eat there! If you will be staying awhile, you can even bring your own gluten free flour, and they will prepare something special for you. I love the ayam tangkap (an Acehnese specialty that you can't find many places on the island) and tom yum. The rooms: Every bungalow is done in the traditional Acehnese style with wooden carved decorations. My bungalow had a porch with a hammock which was the perfect place to relax while watching the ocean and listening to the sounds of nature. The bed was comfortable. The shower had hot water and it was easy to control the temperature, which cannot be said of many showers on the island. There was also a fridge and water dispenser in the room including hot water and china cups. The spa: I have had some of the best massages of my life at the spa here. My favorite is the Javanese. Masseuses are expertly trained and accommodating with any issues you may have. Friends of mine have had waxing done with excellent results. The beach: Great for lounging and a gentle swim.

Situated within less than 1 km of Iboih Beach in Sabang, Treetop Guesthouse and Bungalows features accommodation with seating area. It was so nice place. Bungalow was clean and comfortable! They had also hammock in the balcony, so it was really nice to relax in there. Good snorkeling spot in front of treetop guesthouse. It was easy to be in contact with the owner and he was nice. Nice reastaurant near! I stayed 8 nights, could stay longer.

Boasting a terrace with sea views, an infinity pool and a garden, HIMA Bungalows can be found in Lagudri, close to Sorake Beach and 1.2 km from Lagundri Beach. Guests can enjoy pool views. Super lovely staff caring really, really much about every wish. For us as a surfer/non-surfer couple, this was the perfect accommodation as Hima offers great surfing lessons and rentals, but also provides accommodation where you want to spend time at itself. Our expectations towards the bungalows itself were met as it is 1:1 as the pictures, but the staff exceeded our expectations :)

Located within a few steps of Sorake Beach and 1.4 km of Lagundri Beach, Lilys Nias Surf Camp provides rooms with air conditioning and a private bathroom in Lagudri. Best place to stay in nias, Beda and his family are lovely, the food top notch, the location perfect in front of keyhole and surf viewing platform was epic to check the waves. Will be back yew
