Whanganui is a beautiful place. People who like the outdoors and nature would love to go to Whanganui. The botanical garden is amazing. What I did not like in Whanganui was all the beggars in the streets. There were many of them, asking for money.
Whanganui is warm. The city centre is flat for older folk to walk around as is the interesting cemetary at Aramoho. There are the beach, the river, parks and gardens. Also the museum, art gallery and shops from several op shops through to a huge The Warehouse.
I like this old heritage town. It has some lovely parks and grand old buildings. Walking by the river is pleasant and Bushy Park is an enjoyable visit. I enjoyed breakfast at the Orange cafe in town. I wish I had more time to explore further afield. Hoping to come back and enjoy the mountain to sea cycle trail.
I really like Whanganui & have visited often. The city centre is lovely & there aren't food shops all over the place. This time I bought stuff from the supermarket to eat but I know some of the cafes are good. There should be a register of decent New Zealanders who respect motels so that they are looked after properly when they book for a visit. Some of the reviews appear to be vetted to show only good stuff. Unfortunately, the motels I know are good are usually booked out. There are now 2 in Whanganui I won't be going back to.
Loved Whanganui - wonderful galleries, Saturday market, cafes with excellent coffee, locally owned independent shops, friendly locals and so much history. Great river walkway/cycle path. Lots to see and do in Whanganui and local region.
We went to a roast place for dinner on Saturday night, got a large and shared it, it was ample for the two of us. We were for a Dog Agility event so did not do any sightseeing, but when visit I always think the place would be a great place to live.
